Hey buddy,
They are very very scarce.
MArno bought one from Solly's Anglers corner in Garsfontein on Friday.
There are two types available currently in SA.
One is made by Sensation - nice stick but very heavy and a bit too Pap for my likings - but I do own one they retail for about R800.
The other is made by Blue Marlin on a T53 Blank - this is a nice light weight rod with plenty of backbone they come with a hefty price tag (MArno got his for R1000) but they normally retail in the region of R1400. Saying all this my first stick was also a Blue Marlin which I Broke at Arabie in December last year While trying to horse a 18kg mamma through sum very dense vegetation and he swam under the boat and I could not clear the rod in time.........

having only done "roeping" as a teenager on the Vetrivier near hoopstad, i suspect some of the elbe saltwater boat rods could be a good bet.... My 2 most successful "roeping" lures...
1. Big Treble hook, pull a piece of ski-rope over it with the end unravelled so it makes a bush over the treble hooks. The whiskers touch this and it's hold on tight....
P.S. i had more takes on a green and white, but this might be blind luck...
2. Big treble hook, buy a piece of calf leather, glue it around the shank under the eye and cut it into tassles.. the end result should look like a perfect "KOB TJOKKA BAIT"... again it touches the tassles and VATSO!!!
P.S. used light brown leather

Okay it is very Hard to explain but we call (KLop) for barbel using the rod tip to make splashing sounds in the water like an injured bird or animal. We also use this stick to call in very dense and heavy vegetation.
When calling a rod with eyes the line gets wrapped up around the top eye and when the barbel slams the lure you become minus a rod eye or a rod tip.
In dense vegetation a line running on the outside of the rod is more likely to get hung up.
I hope this explains the preference for a through line rod well enough

ok thanx for that... i used a rod with eyes on, i just didnt shake it about that rough. All i know is it's the most exciting freshwater fishing i've ever experienced. Gentle little splashing noises in small little cove between the reeds, then hold on for dear life. We were boys of 13/14 and catching fish as long as we were tall from a little canoe. I ended up putting my dad's jigmaster on a rod with more insulation tape on than a hosepipe chowed by a bullterrier, and still we caught them...

Marthin these are pics of a home-made roepstokkie 6'6 .I made it short because I used to spend a lot of time on the back of the boat and it was easier to manouvre around without getting caught up in the reeds.I use for klopping barbel and it doubles as a carp loodkoppie rod,for when the carp forage amongst the reeds,you will be amazed at how fresh a carp can be if you hook it 6 feet from the boat ,sometimes it actually tailwalks.As you can see my braid goes into a tiny Brass-tube and then only exits again from the rod(with no other eyes), at the tip ,which is another little brass "grommet".
I must say I dig that calf's leather loodkop,I have used strips of bicycle-tube as well,but I think I am going to make me one or two of those leather-jobs.

i'm definately modifying my one rod!!!!
Thanx for the pics kite, and i checked out ryan's rod as well.... i've got a broken rod or 2. I want to see if i can drill a hole, seal it up with epoxy and add an eye or something of the likes. I'll have to get a 12-13 foot rod for the spot i have in mind coz ur quite high up, maar boeta daar is monsters naby daai brug....
Too bad the parents are coming here for xmas or i'd be smacking the whiskas this xmas holiday... but i want to hit the shade under a bridge when it's the hottest part of the day. As i remember we had our best catches at hot as hell times, finding a shady spot on the opposite bank..

Na kite it's a place called scandinawië drift. U can stand on the old bridge and fish under the new high bridge....
I fished a mudfish head 50cm under a float right under the bridge on my dad's old 11ft fibreglass shad rod with my shimano and 0.47mm Double X high abrasion. U have to put on the breaks when it takes quite heavily because of pylons, and an island about 30 metres in front of u.... needless to say i got a horrible asswhipping!!!
5 minutes later my dad had the same experience except he was fishing on the 13ft rod with his shimano and .50 KGA!!!!
When u strike u actually see the white belly turn in the water... MONSTA!! But i'll be back, bonus is u can catch yellowfish while u wait for the whiska's to come calling!!
