Rod refurb

I have scraped off all the old resin/varnish of of a rod I am refurbishing,can I leave it in this "unprotected" state as I quite like the matt black look or must I revarnish,{graphite rod}

no need to revarnish, just make sure all the varnish and stuff is off, found that if not properly it makes a white colour on the rod, it will be scratch proof i left matt, look inder rod diy section
