Good Day

I Would like to get myself a new rod for scratching(3-5once,4-6once)

Has anybody tried the Century TT,CCC or Kompressor.

Would you rather go for the Pentegon HMG Lite, Poseidon HMG Lite or ultra lite.

Please help, I farm in the karoo and not many tackle stores in the area that stock surf eqipment.

Hi farmer

i've got the pentagon hmg light and its an awesome rod, casts beautifully and its finished off really well, personally i think its one of the better choices. I had a look at the poseidon hmg lite and its also a great looking rod, the poseidon feels a little lighter in weight. Not to sure about the other rods but i'm sure they'll great rods.

Thanks Tez

I spoke to Brendon at Gremlin's and the Pentagon sounds great.Brendon told me they use a T 53 blank on the rod.I already have a BM T53 lite rod,it is a great rod, do you think there is any diff between the 2 rods.

What blank does poseidon use on there HMG rods.

Have a look at the Shimano Exage 110H...

It cast a 4 to 5 oz plug and spoon a mile and has great back bone...

Howdy farmer, i own a poseidon hmg lite and its the best i'v had so far 4 r&s light tackf...and i'v been thru a few rods...its lighter than the pentagon but thats a plus factor 4 me,just depends on the application...kingfisher will explain to you that the blank used is of superior quality,(bt then again, they market the rod!) perhaps you should go and pick up both the rods and see which feels better to u, nt 2 sure on the price diff though, therz prob nt much diff in the performance of both..but if u ask me, poseidn all the way

Have a look at the Daiwa sl 30 h or saltist 30 h ,excellent reels for scratching and will manage large edibles as well.

Thanks for all the replies.

I got hold of a Century TT LD blank in the UK.

It is 3-5 ounce two piece.

I will be sending it down to Gremlins to build it.

P.S please find out what it cost to get a rod to South Africa before getting it, I will have to splash out another 147 pounds to get it here.

Kind regards

Oh ok. I normally have a take two rods with me when I go angling. The first one goes into the water to see if I can at least get an inquiry and if I do, then the second one goes out.

Would this also be considered scratching or is this just normal practice?

Sorry for my ignorance, but what exactly is scratching?
scracthing looking for smaller edible fish and not what you do to your head when you are fustrated that the fish arent biting

working water - is water that characteristic of white foamy water norally churning up sand and loosing food for fish and not characteristic of 8-5 working day and similar principle applies on working bank  - water churning up food for fish to eat  white water or dirty water for kob - dont have waves dumping on it ....

get hold of Nicky Lowerens Books - secrets of angling etc
