Thanks I will write that names down and go check it out what kind of line would u recommend,I'm only starting out and first want to buy all the right gear before fishing the specimen way.currently I'm fishing papgooi but I want to go over to specimen because it looks like the best for future carp fishing.

Sorry and to add line i use 12lb Daiwa infinity duo, or the Daiwa sensor, as for braid i haven't used it yet for my Carp fishing as yet but obviously you want some thing with a olive tan to brownish color "low viz" Daiwa tournament make a nice braid being the 8 weave it cast's like a dream as i use it for Rock and surf but the only draw back i would find with it is it's a floating braid so one would battle to pin it to the bottom so a flying back lead will be necessary

Hi there!
By your last post,I assume that you are new to specimen angling. Can you maby list what equipment you already have for example safety gear, buzzers, pod, etc?what method you want to use getting lines in.(Cast, bait boat, canoe, inflatable)How many rods you will be fishing.
How much you want to spend in total?

Just remember, with specimen angling, carp safety comes first and decent carp care equipment will cost a bit.

Let us know what you got and your budget and we can help you with what you need and what's best, that you can afford.

Hi I still didint buy anything I'm just creating a list with all the stuff im going to buy I know about the specimen net, carp map the weigh sling, the liquid u must use on yhe carps sores, but the rods, reel, line and the stuff u must cook before using that is the problem.I have read a lot of books and articles on the internet about specimen.currently I'm still fishing papgooi but I'm not using keepnets because I hate it.I want to buy 4 rods,4 reels, line, carp mat, weigh sling, carp liquids, pod, carp starting kit,the thing is there so much stuff on the market I don't know what to buy and I really don't want to wasted money.like to buy first time right.if u can give me names of stuf that I want like the rods, reels and other stuff then I know I can go out and buy that.I don't trust the saleman in tackle shops.

"I don't trust the salesman in tackle shops"

I'm a retail sale's man at the Kingfisher, the attitude I have is to give customer's good service and the right product's for them, no use in ripping a customer off as then repeat business is very dismal, most people that know me on Sealine know's I don't sell product's I wouldent use my self.......

Seeing as you're in CT you can visit TT, tackletart.co.za
Jonathan will be more than willing to help and give advise. There are certain items I would advise you not to buy cheap especially reels.

When it comes to reels,I say shimano, others will say daiwa. If I had to choose rod and reel in that budget,Shimano aerlex 8000 reels(R800),shimano beastmaster rods, previous model you can get for R1000.
If you like daiwa, emcast 6000 advanced reels(much better than the more expensive daiwa's),daiwa mission x rods(R800).

The stuff you need to cook is called particles and there are many different tipes, mielies, hemp, tigers, maples, sorghum, etc. They all need to be coocked till swolen or soft. You can find a couple of methods and recipes if you have a look at older threads on sealine.

@ Hayabusa,

You have the right attitude already in that you want to buy rite, first time. In specimen angling most gear WILL last you a lifetime with no real reason to replace.

Obviously perishables like, unhooking mats, weigh slings, carp sacks, landing nets - eventually get brittle from the sun and crack, break, rip or tear.... But these things dont cost much and id say every two - four years you will look to replace those.

The rest of your gear, you buy once apart from bait that is...

If you are a Baitrunner fan, I recomend only the following :

Shimano Long Casts +- R1450 each
Great reel - Unfortunately the only let down is that they dont come with spare spools - other than that - the best baitrunner big pit reel one can buy in mine and alot of other blokes opinions.

If you do not fancy the bulkyness of baitrunners and prefer your normal reels - options here are endless, but these are just a few of the top marks used worldwide:

Shimano Ultegras +- R1500 each
Nothing more to say but pure class and style...

Daiwa Wincasts

Daiwa Emblem Pro (new)+- R1050

Daiwa Emcasts +- R750

Daiwa Saltiga Surf

Daiwa Basia

Daiwa Tournaments

Wynchwood Riots

The list goes on...

Rods - Way too many carp rods to choose from. But if you want the best then these are your options:

Sportex Morion

Chub

Greys

Andy Little

Shimano Hyperloop

Shimano Beastmaster

Shimano Tribal

Sonik SK4's

ESP Rods

Daiwa Mission X

Daiwa Infinity

to name a few...

Braidwise again there are lots but only a few that can really stand the test of time...

Powerpro & Mccoy are the best braids we've found. Strength for strength and abbrassion no other braid comes close. Both are spectra braids and sink well after two or three sessions use.... Very expensive but again, in all things specimen. You get what you pay for.....
