Hi guys i will try and improve my pb at rietvlei this weekend i have gone through the posts and learned allot and as this will be my first attempt the one thing that is not expLained is the kind of structure to fish. In other words what should the bottom be i usually look for a sandy bottom in 2-5m deep water. Will this work or do i need to fish deeper? Any info will be appreciated.

Shame man I can't help U there - I never fished Rietvlei. But I can add my 2c if It will help:

If U casting I'd look for anything from a hard bottom to a platue or hump etc. Anything from 8 ft to perhaps 30 ft deep. Marker float the swim U fishing and if U can find any of those U in business. A soft sandy bottom is not a bad idea either. Just make sure your lead is not buried so deep that it drags the hooklink down as well.

hope it helps !!!! good luck !!!!

TimJan, I'm assuming you know how to use a marker float? because at Rietvlei no boats are allowed, just baitboats... finding a hard bottom like Basspro said is fine, and you will probably also find alot of watergrass/weedbeds at RVlei... So fish around those too.

Dont think you'll find soft sandy areas there because it consists of gravel and silt mainly...

good luck.

look you are choosing a hard lake for a first time try, but don't let that get you down, follow what you have learnt here and you should be fine, it is one hard bottom, lots of sharp rocks, and gravel, fish tight(kol gooi) and you should get one or two...
