I have had good results on fishmeal boilies at the Vlei. My average size increased considerably since switching from particles. I still use yellow maize and hemp with a mixture of crushed and whole boilies. GT DNA boilies have delivered for me as well as Magic Baits Inferno boilies.

The swims from the new ablition block up until the island are popular and usually deliver if you can locate the fish.
Try to locate the end of the watergrass, usually around 160m out. Usually a patrol route for carp. Initially I use mousetrap method until I get consistent action. I then will put out a few kilos of feed each afternoon to keep the swim alive.
If the smaller Carp start to plague your area,increase your hookbait size and place your Rigs on the outskirts of your feed.

We went from late afternoon on the 08/05/2016 until the morning of the 10/05/2016. We didn't struggle at all to get fish but breaking double figures was impossible.
we caught 14 Carp biggest 6,48kg all the other carp was between 5 and 6kg and one yellow fish on partials.
We were fishing with 2 x 20mm boilies on one rig for the last day just to get away from the smaller fish but still only landed 5kg karps.
fishing distance was between 120m and 180m.
any tips on how we will get bigger fish?

I was at the Vlei for a weekend at the beginning of the year and we had great success, mostly coming on birdfood Boilies, especially the strawberries and ice cream flavor by Dynamite. I fished a Snowman rig with 2 15mm Boilies on 1 rod and tigers on the other. I ended up on 9 for the weekend, smallest being a 6.42kg and the biggest was a 10.67kg and 7 of these came on the Boilies. We fed a mixture of particles and boilies which did the trick. PM me for anymore information as well as pictures and remember, Rietvlei is a very difficult venue but once you find what is working it will be well worth it.
