@Hennie, nou brei bietjie meer uit om die arme ou uit tehelp, weet van die inloop is n goeie begin en as jy so 150meter kan cast behoort jy regtekom om die draai...

Ive been busy with a week session at vlei and im still going. Ive found that sweet maize and t-nut hooklink baits work very well with a predominantly maize groundbait with the addition of small tiger nuts and some hemp seed. When feature finding I fish on the furthest side of the drop offs at a depth of 8m. Try finding the gravel beds and stick to that. If you fish the chalets I highly recommend chalet 6, 2 or 1 and if camping I recommend you attempt to get either left or right of the island as all those spots have gravel beds that are easily accessible and easily located with either a fish finder or feature finder.

Tight lines.:fishn

Nice fish! We target island area often but recently battle with snags. Watergrass is pain all over vlei. Will have to try a different technique. How do you overcome this?

@rooibok. I fish with a bit of slack in my lines instead of setting them taught, this helps to stop pulling the hooklink and getting it snagged on any structure it may surround once dropped. When fighting the fish try keeping him up on the surface and try to be hasty in getting him in without being too aggressive and pulling the hook from his mouth. I fish with korda anti snag/abrasion leaders, long 30cm hooklinks and 'bullet' shaped weights rather than grippers as they're more slender and come through structure better, when I put the weight on the safety clip on the leader I dont pull the rubbers down to secure the weight properly, I pull the rubber down say halfway to a quater of its normal length to make it easy for the weight to drop off, coming in with no weight makes a huge difference. And then try landing the fish where you know there is very little structure, no matter what line takes, try bringing it in where youve experienced the least amount of snags whether it be right or left of your pod.

And I add, sky your pod if possible to get your lines entering the water as far in as possible this helps eliminate any algae on the water surface from hanging onto your lines.

Ok thx for that!

With my nxt session there we are going to try the rock and thin line method. It basically works the same as the safety clip but you dont loose a R10 weight every time !! :fbash

The thin line brakes every time you have a bite and fish will stay near surface. :wfish

I feed about 1 to 1.5kgs per line per drop and it seems to be enough? ?

Thanks for the  help. Do you drop that feed once and then leave the line untill it runs? and what spot would you suggest?

i am new at this ......please be patient. how does a marker float work? i have seen it in the on line shops but havent got the foggiest idea of how it works? whats your number so i can watsup you?

We got 22 fish and lost 12 :fbash haha. Basically your marker "float" is fixed to the end of your line with a free running weight on it. You cast it out and 'feel' the surface on which you are fishing whilst retrieving the weight and you use the marker to measure depth, you let the weight rest on the bottom and let line go say 1m at a time until the marker moves to the surface to give you an indication of what depth you're fishing. Dont worry you can ask all the questions you like, its what the forum is for lol :welcomesea::fswim

What was the biggest and for how long we're you there? And at witch spot did you fish round about? Do you roll up the marker float an then tie it say at 2 m? And then cast it out and as the sinker drops down the marker float rolls of? And then if you don't see it its deeper than 2m?if it comes up its 2m or shallower? Just making sure I understand you right. on what depth did you find the fish and what times did you have the runs, evening or during the day?:ifishin

a marker float is free running, so it will pop up on any depth. how to determine the depth, you reel in the marker float till you feel that it is against the lead at the bottom. you then feed line, by pulling off the spool a foot at a time. Marker float rods have a measurement on them to indicate feet, to help you pull of the correct amount everytime. once the float reaches the top you know how deep it is
