Howzit!
As you all saw in the Saltwater post the initial plan was to head down to ST LUCIA and then it all turned around.
First of all, i had no money to go down and then Carcharius and Skrops phoned me and told me that they're taking me with!!!!!!!!!!!!! HEHE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Such wonderful okes. And none of the 3 of us have ever met each other face to face.....
On friday at about 10am they arrived in Piet Retief, we met up, had breakfast and then left for R-Bay.
Upon arrival there we quickly unpacked onto Carch's boat and then went down to the pipe to go catch some spinners and meet up with some of the okes. When reaching the destination we took all our stuff and headed for the water. Past the front of the pipe. Not a good idea.................. With all my tackle and a bucket with 40 weights in (all 6 & 8oz) i unknowingly walked over driftsand, and i disappeared into the sand. waist deep.............. Not so lekker, when i managed to get loose, i stepped on another patch, once again................. Everyone was canning themselves.............. I also had a bit of a chucckle............. When i finally escaped the driftsand, we met up with Kalaharikid(Grant), Dup and Darryl.Getting to the water we started to catch some small spinners, just for fun. Great FUN actually. The comp was on. Carch had one lesser and a spinner, i had 2 spinners and Skrops 2.
We headed to the boat to go grab some food and to rest......... if you can call it rest.... the night went on untill 1 in the morning, preparing traces etc. and we had to meet the guys at 4:45 to head out to Nyoggies. When the guys finally arrived, we sped through(Rbay Style) to get to the beach that was already crowded by 6. Here old skrops made the mark again by catching a southern pompano and a kob.... Me and Carch and Grant blanked, the whole day. The one exciting thing was when Grant was fondling his friends on the beach i was looking after his rod............ He slid a wave garrick and boom......... the reel started screaming like a cat in labour and was into the braid in seconds, obviously a GT. And once i started tightening up, it snapped the leader in two. Fish gone, coz Grant slid his bait out like his ass........... Hehe........... Atleast thats how i tell the story......................
After a while we headed back organizing a trip to Long Beach that night and joining up with Angling Addict(Anand Naicker). And i forgot to phone Grant..... Sorry Grant....
So at about 4 we headed out to Long Beach.......... Its a hectic drive through the bush, and dont even attempt it without one of the locals and a GPS......... You'll dissapear................ Getting to the water we picked our spot and tried to get our sinkers to sit.......... There was a huge sidewash............. We then attempted to slide some baits. Anand and I didnt get our baits out well enough... Skrops on the other hand did the job right and Carch was resting. After a while our car guard started flashing lights at us and everyone ran to the bakkie. I was left with the rods......... The guys' lights all went out and i started looking for something to beat the bliksem that was causing trouble.... So i took out my rod so long.... The guys eventually came back.............. The person or thing ran away, so we pulled the bakkie closer......
Soon after Skrops brought the bakkie closer his rod started getting short pulls every couple of seconds, at first we thought its the sidewash............ but after a while we could feel something chewing the bait at the end of the line..... and then he went VAS PAPPA!!!!!!!!!!!!! After a fight of about an hour of being dragged around on the beach we saw the monster in the water......... It was HUGE!!!!!!!!!!! and unfortunately due to the bad conditions we had to gaff the fish. But Anand did a great job in doing so by ensuring minimal damage. Three of us couldnt pull the fish onto the sand................. But eventually managed to get it far enough. After a quick couple of photos and removing the hooks we too measurements. 204cm of a heavily pregnant raggie female!!!!!!!!!!! that thing was hectic. Being my first encounter with a huge shark, i rubbed her and told her it would all be ok.... which we all had a good laugh over later that night. The fish was put back in the water and after being thrown around by the waves and me and skrops falling over next to it in the water it swam off strong. Skrops just beat his pb with over 150kg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After that we rested a bit, packed up and headed home.
We had a great time.
So on Sunday it was time to go back home.
I just want to say a BIG THANK YOU to Kalaharikid, Anand Naicker, Carch and Skrops for an awesome weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Skrops, now we just need you to post the pics!!!!
