Richards bay harbour

Hello gents, can you please assit me with info on fishing the harbour. My boat is R rated, just want to fish inside the harbour. My son is 7 years old and his dream is to catch a shark.

Don't want to take the boat from jo'burg to richardsbay and then someone tells me sorry, you need this or that. I have a 16ft explorer center console boat.

Do I go to the boat club at the harbour and have a chat with the guys there?

Looking forward to your reply, thanks a mill.::slr::

I lived there many years ago, so my info may be outdated but here goes.

Contact the Zululand Yacht Club, sure if you Google them their details will come up. We used to launch our boat their. Granted my moms boyfriend at the time was a member but I think I remember them having a day fee for non-members to launch.

Sharks, there are lots around that area, friends of mine had a yacht that we used to sleep on, and you could hear them bumping against the hull a night. I have seen a few Zambezis come out in the canal above the steel bridge area (ask a local, everyone knows where the steel bridge is) from the bank most often on a skate wing, sure a bonnie or the like will work.

Most of the fishing I used to do there was with live mullet caught in the canal (we had a death wish walking in that water with a cast net, there are big flat dogs, and I don't think its legal to cast net there anymore)we would slide the mullet of the eastern side of Naval island and then wait for the queenies (many times we had multiple rods screaming at the same time).

Fishing from the boat Im sure you could have luck with live bait for queen fish or even a shark bait on the eastern side of naval. We used to go out with mud prawns and drift on the other side of the harbour for grunter, again I think there is now a no go zone around that area of the coal terminal.

Anyway there is definitely good fishing to be had around this area
