I think it is the guys from Cullinan/Rayton selling the fish to the mine workers, saw them selling bakkie loads of frozen fish years ago, imagine how many fish have been taken all these years, combine that with the netting and it becomes ton's of fish...???

you need to be fishing the deep end of the weed beds, not SO deep by the dam wall... depth doesnt = big fish

easiest way is to troll a deep diving crank along the edge of the weeds. they will jump on quickly

I believe that what has happened to Roodekoppies and then Rust de Winter is now happening to Renosterkop - the explosion of bass has decimated the baitfish populations which has in turn led to a food shortage for the bass which in turn combined with fishing pressure and netting to a fall in the population of bass.
Sadly bass are not native to our waters and our baitfish donot how to protect themselves against this for of predator. Our baitfish have evolved to combat themselves against makriel, barbel, Yellows and some of the larger Kurper species and with the introduction of carp into our waters this has further had an effect on the breeding cycles of the indigenous fish.
Roodekoppies has recovered and has shown significant increases of small species again and so too the bass are following suit - so my opinion is that Roodekoppies is going to flourish as a bass destination for the next 2 years and then it too will crash again but by then hopefully Renosterkop or RDW will be back on track.

they are closely related to guppies... they are from the America's, prolific in Harties, Roodekopjes and the odd one starting to show up in Roodeplaat

Roodekopjes is 30km past Brits
