Reinforced fins

Waching the movie Breathless I saw one of the spearos had a pair of J B Esclapes fins on,on them he seems to have riveted a type of "plastic sheeting" or some thing onto his fins.It tapers nearer the end of the fin.
I have the same fins and they felt quite firm the first few times I used them but now they feel a bit soft.
Anyone know or tried something similar and what would be the best material to use? Or if its even worth the effort -rather buy new pair of differnt make?

Hi there, I pair of old Beuchat fins which I have reinforced with "polipropolien" plastic sheets. Carbon would have been better.  This was due to the blades snapping just infront of the foot pockets. I have done this operation 10 years ago and my fins are still going strong. My friends always mock me due to the impressive weight of my fins but in the water it's a diffirent story. Only the carbon guys can ceep up with me!

Cheers

If you are in the market, Carbon blades (Spierre) gave me a easy extra five meters. If you are in doubt take a pair to the pool, but be warned, you will buy them on the way home.
