It's me again.... I think I'm doing something wrong. My sl50's drag does not want to tighten properly and my 2040 almost wanted to seize the other day! What is wrong? How do you treat the drags on these reels? And which parts need oil and which need grease? Which have to stay clean? I couldn't really find the answers on the search...

Firstly,do not put ordinary grease on the drag washers,get hold of some penn drag grease and apply a slight amount to the washers,also make sure that the drag washers are put back in the correct orientation,also make sure that the anti reverse gear is facing the right direction so that it catches the pawl arm,and that your washers that fit over the handle shaft are put back in the correct orientation when you put the reel back together..Only grease the drive gears,and release clutch.Oil the bearings with rocket fuel or Daiwa oil.Do not over grease or let oil into your drag system.For the correction orientation of all the parts and where they fit,refer to the reel schematics that came with the reel.my 2cents

sounds good nemesis i'll give it a shot.i made sure not to mess up the order of the washers.one thing- i can't seem to reach the last few washers because the one steel washer does not want to move off the shaft.about the 3rd washer

Marius,try taking the bull gear out with the last few stuck washers,turn the gear over,u should be able to push the washers out with a blunt object through the shaft hole,if not,try tapping the gear gently on the same side ,that helps most of the time.hope this helps

Marius,try heating the washer under a candle,the washer should expand and then use a long nose pliers to pull it out.hope this helps boet
