I'm just gathering some info, I'm afraid, after this summer, the exages and surf rods will get a new makeover, keeping all the guides but want to change the wrapping. It's such a problem being a non commercial rod builder, you only have your own rods to practice on!!!!! Anyway, I need to step up more on some things I feel I should have done better and being a perfectionist doesn't help my cause. I am just considering, I really like the Alps reel seats, there are negatives, I really think they look very neat and solid, hence the enquiry, but is not definite yet.
As for the wrapper, got any ideas, the more I have been thinking about about certain projects I have in the pipeline the more I'm going to need one, really need one! I looked at the alps wrappers with deluxe chuck or pacbay, but the alps better by far, and same price, just don't know how to go about getting a wrapper and getting better prices, best idea was to source a second hand one then just upgrade the chuck, I'll never do more than what rods I own, just maintenance and maybe family relatives. You got any ideas?

The Exage is direct to the blank, no butting
I have the Pac Bay power wrappers. As do the vast majority of commercial builders and I have standard Chucks.
I use the bed for shaping grips, smoothing blanks, refurbishing joints and for Wrapping guides.
I did over 2000 rods and repairs and probably 15000 guides before I replaced the Chuck
I replace about 5-6 O-Ring drive belts a year and have had to replace 1 wheel in the rests and 2 Oring surface rubbers.
Didn't bother with the other chuck.
I have modified a small bench with a Bosch 700W Drill in it with a foot control in which I shape cork, size spiggot material, shape cork wrap and EVA.
How do you think we all started our rod building - Stripping and rebuilding our own rods year after year and possibly 2 x a year.
If you are only doing your own rods then you only need the Power Wrapper as it has a dryer on it and doing your own rod you only need to dry one at a time.
The Power chuck is essentially only required if you are turning 80 and 130lbs class rods where there is a lot of weight and extremely tight Double and even Triple Binding

Well that is a sigh of relief, hearing from you that it has served beyond its purpose, I was worried about the chuck, but if you say it's not as bad as it seems then there is no need to upgrade it. Could always put a cable tie around if need be. I'll send you a Pm as I might also need to order a blank from you soon as well. Thanks for the advice once again.
