Recent holiday

A few pics from my recent holiday. Fishing was hard, probably due to the cold water but we managed a few in the end.

Shad showed up on the spring tide but weren't that big.

Hook one of these on a surface lure and shallow sand bank but lost it at my feet.

Thanks, we had a few there but had to leave as it was a 1 hour walk back and would of been in the dark if we stayed longer.

Nice that you nailed them on bucktail also, not the first choice for most anglers in the surf...

Lovely fish caught.....I can imagine the perch gave yr dad a good fight ?! They are quite a feisty specie on lure..

Is that a Saragosa 5000 and what weight class is the rod?

Would you change anythng?

Hi Thika, the rod is rated to 5/8 oz and the reel is a quantum blu 30.Not the ideal set up for the surf but we were on our way back from a blind river and this section of the surf in a corner looked good for kob.The lip was really close in and we could just reach it with the light rods.

If I could have changed something ? Yes had 2 more suitable rods XTC loaned me that I could of used but hind-sight is a funny thing.Went back to this spot 2 days later in perfect conditions, 1 hour walk soft sand and as we got there west wind came through and blew everything to .... haha

EugeneC, I like a bucktail you can fish them faster on top and slower on the bottom, very versatile lure.

I love bucktail fishing myself, I have a huge and ever growing collection, that's why I mentioned it. It's perhaps more fashionable to fish soft plastics, but I'll take a bt any day.
