re-inforcement patch

i read in a book on spearfishing that it is paramount to have a re-inforcement patch on your wetsuit where you place your gun's butt when loading. i was then told by a friend of my boets, who regularkly spears, that he doesn't think its necessary. my suit does not have a petch on but i have been told i can have one put on. do you guys think it is necessary? please help^^..

A loading pad definately does help. If you are using a long gun or a high power custom made gun, its almost impossible to do without a pad. After a few loads you will be very uncomfortable. You can buy a loading pad that fits under your suit. I would personally rather have one sewn into the suit.

I have dived with and without. It does make a difference when you are using a gun with a barrel longer than your arms.

At one point in the exercise your left arm is pulling the but into your sternum as your right arm is coming over to grab the rubber.

A lot depends on how many shots you are pulling off in a dive. If you are after yellowtail where a fast seconsd  shot might be needed and you really have to slam the gun into your chest.

Not too sure. Easy to make. A piece of 3 or 5mm high density foam will do.(does not take water) make a pouch with straps and youre sorted.

i read that the butt of the gun will wear through your suit at the spot on your suit where you load it. is this true?
