So this past weekend I got an invite to a private spot on the vaal river. I arrived keen to nail the yellows but after a couple hours I gave up and join the rest of the group who where nailing barbel.
Not wanting to chuck a bait around I tided on the tester pumpkinseed I bought ages ago. Walking the edges I spotted some targets and tried "calling" this didnt work and they spooked. At this stage I wasnt feeling confident in the lure but I carried on.... luckily!
A few meters on I found some rocks and gently lowered it in the water and pumped it up and down creating a stir but not breaking the surface. The first "attack" took me by suprise but the fish ...and I missed... Now im feeling more confident. I walked a few meters on and tried again and a black hole appeared under my lure that even Stevn Hawkins would be amazed by and it was on!! a beast over 10kg. The 20kg line was no match for the speed that it took off at and the rocks ...SNAP.. gone. So was my one and only Pumpkinseed. Tried other lures but no luck.
Now what I need to know guys, is how are you supposed to fish that lure? was my technique correct? Off to the tackle shop this weekend to stock up on pumpkinseeds and HEAVY line!
Who else has had success with these lures? (or should I say block of wood)
