Problems with my reel

Hi People!

Can anyone assist, i have a diawa sl50 reel bought it last year. Now i notice although my drag is a tight while retrieving an anchoring sinker of about 6-7 oz it i get this heavy grinding noise from the reel and line comes off the spool. Is it cause my drag is still to loose but then if i tighten it to the max how do i fight a fish? the fish will have no line to pull am i right? I am still a novice so please bare with me  LOL!

Sounds to me like there somin wrong with the pinion engaging properly. Kahn will sort it boet, give the man a shout.
