Price of the Penn TRQ40 and Shimano TN30A

Hi Guys

 

I have noted that the tackle stores in the States price both the TRQ40 and the TN30A at about $450 to $500.  Why is it then that the TRQ40 is so much more expensive than the TN30A in South Africa?  A reputable dealer in SA asks R5000 for the TRQ40 and R3600 for the TN30A.

 

I know that the Penn's are made in the USA, but can postage etc. really have such a large impact on the price?

the only extra charge you pay is VAT. there are no import taxes on fishing equipment.

Check out for the free shipping then you save even more, it takes about 3weeks, depends where its from, dropped of at your closest post office, you save major bucks!!! If every body started buying like this you will see how quick the tackle shops start dropping there prices

HIya ferrars,

Think you might find that its the bloody SA tackle agents that make the $$.

I now fall into the small class of tackle shop owners.

In most cases there is more margin in a spool or two of line and a hand full of sinkers than there is in the sale of a reel?!?

The company I work for in the US just ordered me a Penn TRQ40 as a gift. How's this? It cost $388US, which amounts to around R2600.  Insane how we get ripped off in SA...

@ Trophy you are right! braid very cheap online and grinders,multipliers not always cheaper, but you score on ebay when you buy secondhand reels that some guys buy but then they cant cast it or when the owner past away....

I can't comment as I got mine as a gift from my previous company as a go-away present. Would I have bought one for the price they cost in SA. Only if had a good divorce lawyer........lol

EBAY the only way i buy.

whiplash for R1 per meter delivered?....who is gonna beat that?.

lets not even get started on reels.....and just to mention hooks......1/3 the price we pay here....even if its mustads or owner etc....

Ek dink dis omdat die Penn in America gemaak word, is daar nie invoerbelasting betrokke nie, maar wel op die Shimano. As die Penn daar ook belas moes word sou dit baie duurder as die Shimano gewees het. Saltigas kos ook dieselfde as Shimano’s in die USA, maar hier is hulle oor die R5000
