I want to start buying better quality reels etc as I am fishing much more than ever.
In your opinion is a Shimano  LC bigpit at R2200.00 really so much better than a Docks 12000 Big Pit at R850.00?
I do own the Docks already and so far no issues. But the Shimano caught my eye and I was thinking whether my next reel must be another Docks 12000 or the Shimano.

What else is recommended for a big pit baitrunner?

What facet of fishing do you plan on using them for? If only for bank angling you don't need a big pit reel at all. Yes Shimano is much-much better than Docks.

Yes, just normal papgooi in rivers and dams. I do have a bait boat to take line in, but I agree, a big pit reel is not needed. But it looks so cool and it feels as if it might tackle bigger fish like catfish better.

If you want reels that can also handle big catfish then a reel with normal front drag and not a baitrunner would be better. You can have a look at Shimano Aerlex reels they are under R1000 each, Daiwa Crosscasts or Emblems etc.

Ok, can I ask why are normal reels better than baitrunners? What is wrong with baitrunners? My Docks baitrunner still have a drag up front. Why is it of less use than a normal reel with a front drag?
Sorry for all the questions, but I ask as I don't know.

Nothing wrong with baitrunnes, normal spinning reels with a front drag only usually has a better drag than baitrunners. I've found in the past with Shimano DL series has nowhere near the quality of a drag. Also there is less that can go wrong with a reel that has only one drag.
