Post winter Barbel action

I am of the opinion that Barbel will only go on the bite when the water reaches a certain temp, if your view is different please share. What is that benchmark? It will be interesting for everyone to understand when you can start to target them. This past weekend the water temp on a Gauteng dam was 12 deg and there was nothing going on as far as Barbel was concerned. If I cast my mind back to try and determine when they became active last year 15 deg seems to stick in my mind. I have noticed in some of the upcoming comps that Barbel are one of the target species, you might be flogging a dead horse if the "conditions" are not right, just a thought!

If you are fortunate enough to hook into a Barbel in the next couple of days please try and determine water temp and let us know.

My fishing buddy reckons 17 deg worked for him in JHB the last few years,

This could be quite interesting if we could get a few more opinions and crack the code...lol

You can always catch barbel. They are just not that active in feeding when its colder. You just need to look where they are and entise them to take your bait.
