Port Elizabeth - Weekend ahead

Wow Fred
Well done. I feel humble placing my photo after your spectacular catches.
At least I can prove that I kept the fishingski flag flying as well, albeit from Cannon Rocks area(my son and his friend was on the tupperware).
Hope it is a successful year for all you fishermen:sf:::

Some feedback from the recent Fishing Derby at Noordhoek
Chris Martin won the grand prize great for him and for the kayakers to get a win in! Won it with a 7,3kg Geelbek (weight gutted and gilled).Well fished Chris!

I am blown away (excuse the pun on this windy day) by the silence here. Come on boytjies (boaties), I am hungry for some action photos!!!! Surely the tail have fattened up and the Bek are back in town...

Early friday morning seems to be a possibility. I want to dust off my ski and show the manne I can still rock off the ski. I know you buggers think I have gone soft fishing dry foot off the Boknes Monster...

After all we all know what the best fishing is - off the fishingski's.

I need some response - NOT "the water is still too cold" Rujuan?!!!

Hi Boknes, the water is a cold 16 deg C (in the warm spots at surface!) but nonetheless the reef fish are biting. Tagged a number of fish this weekend, Scotsman, Red Steenbras, Roman, Santer and Poensie. Nothing kept but good conditions. Had 3 recaps this week, Rujaun re-caught and released a Copper I tagged two weeks ago and Fred a Santer I tagged in April 2016- also released.

ORI also confirmed that a Poensie I tagged 1994 days ago was caught 315km up the coast in Nyara/ Kwenqura which I assume is North of EL? grew 130mm in 5.5 years @ a rate of 23mm per year...….so guys put them back there's other fish to eat, these are great fish with a long lifespan?

Otherwise waiting for some good weather (a good West for a few days) to bring the fish in and on the bite!

How weird is this weather, the wind has blown non stop for months. Is this a bad season for our beloved Bek then???

Full marks for the catch and release/tagging. You guys do us proud!

Well, hello fellow anglers and boaties!
I trust that all had a pleasant and fruitful break over the holiday season!
I can report back that at least one fishingski outing at Kenton brought back fantastic memories.
Launching at Middle Beach at the end of December found us in about 25 metres of water and just to the left of the Bushmans River Mouth and about 1 km off the coast.
As the line dropped and hardly settled into admiring the scenery, the almost forgotten fierce tap, tap and then rod end disappearing happened. Yes, we were slap bang in the middle of a Geelbek school! Flashback of the good old days off the wild side came back in an instant. Sizable Geelbek were attacking our bait with venom! Some, as is customary, took us on a bit of a tow as we held on for dear life!
The feeling of paddling into the sea on a calm day - great, observing a healthy sea with many bait balls and activity visible on the fish finder - fantastic, crowning the experience with a few Geelbek on the line ~ priceless!

I hope wild side has delivered recently - any comments?::tight:

Hi Bokki
The season hasn't exactly started with a bang, or hasn't really started at all, i'm not sure which.
We have had really a lot of adverse wind. The weekends we have launched, have been productive up to a point, its been slow and we have worked really hard for what we have got. Predominantly nice reefies, and a few small bek in the mix with on or 2 being keepers.
The influx of out-of-town, newby and once-a-year ski-boaters contributed to a certain amount of frustration as well, caused by their ignorance or indifference to etiquette plus fish-fever resulting in them riding around on top of us and roaring right up the drift line etc (and always when you have a fish on...)

We wait in eager anticipation that next weekend will be the one.... always the next one;)

We also had a little whale interaction, where one came between us while we were tied together, and got caught in the aforementioned rope, providing for a minute or two of adrenalin rush. Followed by"Meh we'll carry on fishing - statistically speaking the chances are zero of this happening again" and so we fished on.

Unfortunately, due to huge swell, the Stock Fish Derby was postponed to the 15-17th June 2019. This means 3 days fishing instead of 2 which is better. Pencil in the date and join us at Noordhoek Ski Boat Club, PE.

Hi just a heads up for the upcoming Stockfish Derby at Noordhoek, PE. From the 15-17 June 2019. With a skippers briefing on the evening of the 14th June 2019.

Caught a nice 9.56kg YT this weekend -augurs well for the comp. Missed one earlier on -the hook pulled and then fortunately had a another chance! One forgets how strong these fish are - a good workout off a ski!

Also tagged a number of reef fish, including a couple of Coppers and a Dageraad.
