Popper cupped face?

Ok, so I'm doing the lathe thing and turning out popper after popper, now the big question: I am battling to get the cupped face right, any suggestions on how you guys do it?

I made a tool and do it on the lathe.

This one has no cup. The face is sanded on the radius of a belt sander roller.

Is that just a flat bar sharpened or how did you do that?

It is a re-shaped chisel. You can also use an old file.
