A search will probably reveal a lot of info,but for starters the Southern side of the bay has a rocky ledge/outcrop which is accessible during low-and outgoing tides.This is a good start-off point for juvenile kingies,any portion of flat beach is good for Moz-size 3spot pompamo's,even in very shallow water.
Bonefish and Natal stumpnose can be caught on bait(chokka is quite a winner),if the water clarity is extremely high,then try at dusk and dawn.You will have great fun if you take the odd hook and sinker ,especially on ultra-light tackle.

Yes, juveniles and big-eye's.Havent been for a few years,got most of what we've covered on fly(before dropshot) and also went mostly in wintermonths,sure summer will be even better,.Rumour has it that if you pack enough water and do the stroll to Ponta D Ouro you will also be rewarded.
Once there the ghielies will probably recommend Milibangalala or Ponta Federico a short hop north,and quite possibly worth it.

Big Joe, You will enjoy Malongane and fishing there very much.
Like Kitefisher says best place is to fish into the sea from the rocks and ledges right in front of the dive camp beach entrance during low tide. When the tide starts pushing try the inside corner of the bay at the same spot, fom the beach.
The water at Malongane is unfortunately always clean to crystal clear due to the absence of any substantial rivers northwards all the way up to Xai-Xai, so best to fish sunrise and sunset.
If you stand and wait in the inside corner of the bay (as above) you will see the juvenile Kingies smash the baitfish and be able to do sight casting. Remember to have along polarised sunglasses so you can see them better. Apart from soft baits dont forget some smaller size plugs as I have found that when the Kingies are hunting agressively they cant leave the plugs alone.
For conventional bait fishing if you are taking conventional tackle along, fish from the beach at the "very top" camp entrance to the beach. At this spot especially at night you are bound to hook into the big ones. Remember however to take along the better quality baits that you find for sale here as those sold in Manguzi and the campsite are the old "mushy" rubbish kind.
If you need advice once there, look up skipper Derrick at the divecamp, one of the older guys and long at Malongane, he is a friendly helpful chap who I am sure will gladly assist you. Tell him an old grey friend of his from Pretoria who once used to work with him, referred you to speak to him.
PS: Malongane's fishing is much better than the bay at Ponta Do'Ouro, and it just improves the further north you go.

You can fish livebait for them, even at that spot you can pick up nice Wave Garrick, which if slided the Kingies cant/wont leave alone.
Remember to take a few Sebiki rigs along to also help catch livebait at night (ones with the lumenous glow beads).
Good time of the year for Malongane, you can keep yourself busy in and around the bay all day, no need to go try all other unknown places, but if you do also go Mamoli for dropshot and Techo Banhine (ask Derrick for directions) for conventional fishing.
Otherwise tightlines and enjoy Ponta Malongane, even if you catch nothing you will be revitalised, its a magic place. Keep eye open for petty crime and theft, many poor people in region, dont leave any valuables including fishing gear laying around.

Tristar,your reply make me itch to start up my old Landcruiser wagon which has done a couple of trips that way in the past.I once went with a group of divers and stayed in the rondavels at Parque do Malongane,we were fortunate to get the one with the nearest beach access possible(think it was bungalow"L",or "K") ,during one of the evenings we lit the fire,and I decided to make a few casts whilst waiting for coals,needless to say we got a smash of Natal Stumpies everything between 3 and 4 kg's (biggest 4,3 kg's,nonstop for more than an hour,and when they left and we had run out of anything that looked like chokka(honestly presentation was not an issue) the kingies of about 2-5 kgs came on for the next hour,jsut one of those red-letter evenings that does not present itself very often..
We were also fortunate to have a bonefish smash(chokka again) at the southern corner of Mili,great fun on light tackle ,also at night.
Daytime fishing, seems to be for holiday makers,as the saying goes.

hey guys, ive fished a few times at malongone... going 12 - 16 dec. drive north up to fredrico's, quality place to fish on a spring low, bring the gogs as well as the snorkleing is amazing... nice kingies. the bay also produces but i prefer on the high and more to the south of the bay..got stripped by an angry kingie last time and shad were so thick.. the wave garrick should keep you busy as well in summer... and i dont have to mention the bar for afterwards...
What a disaster! Ok not all that bad. First 7 days the rain and wind almost blew us back to za. (luckily they have more bars there than there are fish in the sea!). That was followed by two sunny days. The sea was rough and big waves made it difficult to fish ledges and points during low tide. I fished everyday though. Snapped 2 lines the first day and that got me excited. Next day got 7 wave garricks at malongane self. Following day a 2.1kg bearded mullet and my friend a wavegarrick of about 1.5kg. Then we went to ponta da ouro. Around the point at low tide. There I got 3 greenspots in 3 casts with 7inch smokin shad flukes on 1ounce nitro. Smallest was 2k and biggest 3k. That was followed by another wave garrick of about 1.8kg (my biggest to date) on same tackle.
As Pershond said, the weather was really ka@. Many days we didnt try that hard and blanked. Water was terrible (sand) and difficult to sight fish. I spoke to lacal guys and they told me looong stories of all the fish and I believe most of them. Lets say, I will go back when I know the weather will be good because you can have lots of fun and surely catch bigger and lots more fish.
To the guys planning on going to malongane, go to da ouro on your second day on low tide and walk around the point. The structure is insane!! Thanks for all the tips. Cant post the picks sorry. They were taken with my friends camera.
