Howzit guys

I would like some input for polarized sunglasses, which brands are good and which color lenses works well at sea? Looking for a pair not more than R1000

A polaroid lens is a polaroid lens!!! You can get them for 80 bucks and they work just as well!!!!

I've had a few and I can assure you that cheap polaroids does not event come close to the more expensive ones!!

@Nevergiveup, if you want a pair of decent polies for cheaper go and look at the rapala sportsmans range...

one color that I beleive is best for the sea is the blue mirrors!

I've been very happy with the Ballistic sunglasses and at R250 - R300 a pair I don't feel sick if I break or loose them.
I've used some rubbish cheap sunglasses and some expensive ones that were no better than the Ballistic.
I like a normal dark/black lense as it doesn't change the colour of everything you look at.

the rapala's is about R400 and not to bad at all! what expensive glasses did you use if I may ask?

I look after my sunnies with great care and that should be the norm with expensive sunnies!

the blue mirrors, rapala, costa, mako etc doesnt change the colour of everything you look at?! i'm sure cheap "mirror" glasses might do that.

the best thing to do is to go and test these glasses and see for yourself nevergiveup.

Fishgillz....cost about R400. From the States, but can get them in JHB. Awesome value for money...and they float:SSS

I tried the Rapala and Polaroid & Ray Ban(not polarised just blue mirror lense), Nothing wrong with them they just didn't seem any better than the Ballistic.

The Rapalas I tried, had a blue mirror lense and I used them for driving as well. When driving the Blue mirror lense reflected blue spots onto the windows and mirrors in the car. It's not the fault of the glasses but is something to consider if you intend using them for more than just fishing.

Most blue mirror lenses don't change the colour much but amber lenses I can't tolerate at all.

Oalkey Straight Jacket with Fishing Spec Blue Lens- Nothing comes Close. They are abit Pricy but its worth every cent.

amber i dont like either...

the question is what is best for the sea, and i trust the blue mirrors are.

lcd screens have polarization filters. when u look through something else
that is polarized you need to be lined up, this is why a LCD screen is sometimes hard to see with your sunnies on.

car windows have polarized tint. the spots you see are the variations in the
direction and intensity of the polarization at those spots and this is with all good polarized sunnies. 
you can see people inside other cars better when wearing polarized glassed since you block out most of the external light reflections (glair)

lost my oakleys to langebaan waves at leentjiesklip.

so i got the cheapie ocean eyeware and it works!

then a mate made me try on his oakleys when were chasing tale... lets just say you can see deeper into the clear water and much more clearer... and more fish etc etc.


now i have to convince myself to invest again...

I've always been a huge fan and vocal proponent of high quality sunnies.. you only get one set of eyes.... protect them!!

Similar to Nepps, you only have one pair of eyes and if you have spent time on the water in the tropics then you soon realise how expensive a cheap pair of glasses can be.
I have used MJ's and CDM's and whilst they are very good, the frames break to easily for me. I went though the process last year and having tried Ballistic, Rapala, Oakley's etc I got 2 pairs of Wiley X, one amber for regular days and slightly overcast and one blue mirror for bluewater. They have good optics, are comfortable, have a very good face seal but I have already broken one arm through wear and tear.
I will try Vaurnet's for Xmas!
