Trust you are all well. Can someone please advice what should be in my fishing bag?  My best catch is an 8kg carp caught on a farm here in Robertson. Had no problem reeling it in, it just sort of came to shore all by itself (maar sedertdien byt ‘n gogga hard en aanhoudend). I have a 7ft rod with a huge reel. I am new to Sealine and was wondering if you could provide me with some useful info.

I have noticed that some Sealiners are raving about fishing at Bloemhof - what is so special about this place? I've never been there, but if it's worth it I may plan a trip there in the future, where is it about?

Firstly I do not have much, if any, experience! Can you please shed some light on the above mentioned issues and do I need special equipment to be able to fish? I would like to do more fishing in the future, but do not know the dos and don'ts. Please help!

Welcome to sealine!

Are you looking to do conventional or specimen angling? Best way is to get out with some experienced anglers and see how they do things. Maybe there are some willing sealiners close to you?

Bloemhof Dam is very popular because of the abundant fish in the dam. Plenty of carp and huge catfish. I would suggets you got more experienced before going to Bloemhof, because of the distance and cost involved.

Naruto, thanks for your reply. I think I'd rather go with conventional. Notice that there is only 2 other members from Robertson. Who will be able to answer my questions, without me feeling embarressed?

Thanks for info. Why should I get more experience first, can't I sommer try a luck while visiting? Isn't there facilities to stay for a week or so?

I am sure there are other places close to robertson with sealine members. But to start off I'd say get 10 to 12 foot carp rods. Preferably graphite for better casting action. Sensation has some good ranges and they are not overly expensive. I dont know what reel you have, but I'd suggest some nice baitrunner/baitfeeder reels with aluminium spools that can hold at least 300m of 0.25mm (9lbs) line. Remember to shop around as price can vary a lot from shop to shop. As leader you can use 17 to 20lbs line. The leader should not be twice the length of the rod you are using. Hooks, weights, traces, baits etc depends on where and what you are targeting.

Hey Gran.
Firstly you should not feel embarrassed if you ask questions its the only way to learn the things you want to know.
I always give the advice of having a chat with the guy at the local tackle shop,he should be able to answer quite a few questions that you might have.
If you want you can even ask me questions, I might be able to help.

Hi Naruto, ek het die vlg. info bekom. Wat is jou siening daaroor?

Leader lyn: Kinfisher of Diamond .35

Hoof lyn: Diamond, Stilstar, Double X .20/.18

Swivel: no.14 & no.12 (weet nie watter maak nie)

Hoeke: no. 1, 2,3 (maak?)

Sinker: Mushroom 1/2, 0 (maak?)

Hoof lyn: Diamond, Stilstar, Double X .20/.18
EK gebruik DoubleX 0.25mm meeste van die tyd asook 0.20 as ek afstand soek. As jy 'n boot of canoe het is hierdie nie so 'n groot saak nie.

Swivel: no.14 & no.12 (weet nie watter maak nie)

Hoeke: no. 1, 2,3 (maak?)

Hier is 'n rietvlei sliding strop. Die bom-houer en sinker kan met 'n mushroom sinker vervang word afhangende van wat beter werk vir jou.
