Had to share this short story.Went to Punta D Ora bout 10 years back, more of a surfing/spearfishing trip.Well one afternoon there was a guy fishing the point. He said tonight is the night I catch my Kingy as I have lost a few already, but I will get him tonight.

A short time later the dude hit into his Kingy and after bout 30 min had made no progress fighting it so we went back to the chalet ...

The next morning we got our spearfishing kit on and went down to the beach only to find our dude playing his kingy bout 500m from where he hooked it.By this time he was really stressed out.He said"please go out and shoot the thing for me because my wife has been alone the whole night and is the moerin with me"

To cut a long story short he almost cried when we got back out and informed him he was playing a big skate the whole night.

Who knows maybe its someone from Sealine, dont know that neck of the woods to well but Nelspruit springs to mind

My longest fight was 5.5 hours.

My mate fought a shark for 11.5 hours only for it to get eaten about 1km away from where he hooked it.

my longest fight was 8 hours and i lost the fish next to the boat, we estimate a 90+ kg yellowfin on 6kg line!

longest fight on a boated fish was 4 hours on a 80odd kg yellowfin!

My longest was over 3 hours on a Diamond I hooked into off Inyoni rocks in Toti. Was still a lightie and my poor arms took serious punishment but I refused to give up. That ray had my half a km south of the rocks then back to the rocks then back down the beach so my legs got a work out too!

Managed to get the bugger into the shorebreak where a wave rolled it over faster than my broken hands could wind and it wrapped past the leader and onto the line and snapped off literally 5 meters away! I at least got a good visual and all the ballies reckoned it was 45kgs plus judging by the size.

Edit: this was on a Castmaster Kingfisher heavy rod with a solid KP.
