Don't know whether its true, but remember reading that they are closely related to piranhas some time ago

No, it is just sensationalism calling the Goliath Tiger a piranha.
Honestly looks much scarier than any piranha I have ever seen.

Wonder how he released that tiger (according to the article he did).
Probably swung it by the tail as hard as he could and then ran for dry land screaming like a girl… I would have!

I'm quite sure that the fish died - he tried to resuscitate it for an hour. So he took it to the local village to everyone including a hunk for the witchdoctor who gave him some special muti the night before.
There was a letter to local press here in Guernsey saying how terrible it was to kill the fish! - but he really is pretty strong on conservation I believe
I'm mad keen on catching tigerfish but know this is way out of my league - looks like catching flatdogs to me
