With the price of petrol going up again I have now asked for a quote to have my double cab changed from petrol to gas. Fishing is becoming very expensive now!!(t(do(wn)

Ons het nog niks gesien nie, met die verbot op olie wat die Euro Unie op olie van Iran gesit het, gaan die prys nog meer styg. Maar dalk is ons gelukkig, ons nuwe regering is mos pelle met al die verkeerde lande.

The company I have asked for the quote will give me all the details as they claim it is cheaper using gas. Currently they are concentrating on company car fleets.

Interesting. Keep us posted. I'm interested in knowing what the conversion costs and what the "claimed" savings will be.

if the supply of gas can be met (shortage around november/ december) then it could be worthwhile.
I am in the oil industry.....we are in for a huge shortage as the refineries in Durban are down and Cape Town refinery will be shutting down for 8 weeks.

approximate cost R6500 for my V6 colt bakkie, bearing in mind that this is a 1997 model bakkie. I am just awaiting the consumption details.

Do they place the "gastank" in your loadbin as well?  Gonna take up some space in a already small loadbin, also, will this be the conversion where you can switch from petrol - gas & back as needed?

they fit another tank for gas and yes you can switch to petrol or diesel with a flip of a switch even while driving.

Two reasons why I asked these questions.

A friend of mine used to work for Afrox in Vredendal and he had this conversion done to his bakkie.  First hand experience from him suggested much of a muchness, 6 of one & half a dozen of the other.

In other words, he could not see a mayor saving cost wise.  How long do you have to drive around to warrant a R6500 saving.

His second gripe was the "filling stations" available, he sometimes had to do major detours just to get to an Afrox branch so he could refill (only office hours as well).

One last thing, doesn't the price of LPG & fuel go hand in hand?

I'm not shooting you down, I'm just curious if it's as viable as they make it out to be?  Shouldn"t at least a 3rd of our vehicles had this type of fuel as standard then?

I have attached address for you to check out. this was sent from Bulgaz (re -saving)

Remember I am just exploring this option, your concerns are the same as mine. The other option for me is to upgrade my bakkie and get me a diesel bakkie. I get 6-7kms/ltr, where as with diesel I could possibly get 10-11 kms/ltr (saving on fuel approximately 50%). However, the emphasis is on going green.
