Can some-one from the area please assist with some of the local fishing spots in the Botha Place and Cherry Lane areas fishing for edibles.

Thanks

Wort a favourite spot is known localy as "post office".Its basicly in front of the last (North end) house in Cherry Lane. a lot of Shad are taken here and if you move about 50 metres south I have caught 3 Black tip kingies here. Two on Cray tail and one one sardine. My son got a large pompano here on craytail and I also got a Brown skate and had a hook staightned by a nice size Kingie.Going the other way you can try Umdoni Point (deep water).Coming out of Cherry Lane turn left and drive as far as you can (road becomes a track)I wouldn't leave a vehicle here unless i had to. Walk across the railway line and onto the rocks. Umdoni Point is a bit further South and is unmistakeable.Locals have caught Cuda, Kingies and Dorado off this point. Watch the waves here.Have a blast.

Thanks plugger.

I know Umdoni Point well and used to jump off there to go get crayfish off the the reef just off the point; that was quite a few years ago when I was a lot younger and maybe a lot more reckless.

At the southern end of Pennington, having a look at Google Earth, I can see some very nice bays near what looks like an old tidal pool.

I will let you know how it goes when I get down there.

hi wart

apparently the sards were at pennington today. it might be worth while throwing a bait there cos the fish always seem to stick around for a day or 2 after the sards have passed

Wart I think that old tidal pool is in front of the old tower at Umdoni golf course. My son got a nice cave bass there. You can drive through the golf course (Umdoni rd) becomes dirt, and park right there.

plugger, I know the one you are talking about (it is right there at the Umdoni golf course near the old railway station) but the one I saw on Google Earth is at the southern end of Cherry Lane and looks like it is silted up. Co-ordinates are S30.3867, E30.696936.

There is a tidal pool at the main beach at Pennington which is often filled with sand, no others that I know of. I was working at a house at the South end of Cherry Lane today. SABC truck came racing in asking the way to the beach.

I heard it is called Marthas Drain (or very similar to that) from a commercial that operates out of Rocky Bay.

I spoke to one of the local spearo's today and he says the weather outlook for the week end is good, don't know about the fishing though.

Off to Pennington tomorrow and will be fishing there in the afternoon and again on Sunday and Monday. If you want to join in anyone is welcome as my usual fishing buddy is heading up north for the weekend.

Pennington and Umdoni Point weren't too productive over the weekend, so we are heading back to Umdoni Point this Sunday to try again.
