Penn/Grinder to match exage 10 foot

Hi Guys,

Looking for a good reel either penn or grinder for balancing out my 10 foot exage,

Want it to be light and use for estuary fishing as well

Any comment will be appreciated

Hi kingfish.

I have a statist 30 paired with my exage 10ft. It is very nicely balanced. I use 0.36 mono on it.

and it dont faze him one bit gooing 5oz lead.

but agree a 20 / 30 size daiwa or a torium 14.

Do you know whats the lightest sinker that can be used with any of these reels ?

If it was a slightly lighter rod I would say 2 ounce but matched with the exage 10 go for 3 ounce to get the rod to perform. It performs best with a 4 or even 5 oz sinker. 4oz with a slightly heavier bait and 5 oz with a smaller bait.

agree.. if too heavy for where you want to fish then you might want to look at the exage 1224 where you can use lighter sinkers in the 2 - 3 oz range with bait and not heavier.

I would not suggest using a 10ft Exage for estuary fishing... it's complete overkill and there are many other CHEAP options which would give you MUCH more joy in estuaries - thinking rods to cast weightless prawns, small dropshot-lures and small plugs/spoons.
...and I'd pair it with a small grinder, 2000-4000 size. 10lb braid is plenty, 15lb if you're very new to estuary fishing. Just my 2c, but I certainly won't fish an estuary with a multiplier reel...

I agree with ChtistoPoenie it is too heavy for estuary fishing. I use mine for throwing larger spoons and plugs as well as baits for eds off the bricks or beach. Get a light rod and small grinder for the estuary you will have more fun.
