Remarkerbly good condition still, and this one is the midel with the cast iron main gear.

Hi Old Salt

The chrome plate where the gearing and dog go is also great.

I buff the dog and the chrome with jeweler's paste and brasso until it is shining. Then I punch out the pin that holds the gear onto the post and buff the bottom of that and it gives an incredibly smooth reel.

bud i use diamond guard (yes the car polish) on my spool shaft with a dremel at 20 000rpm's.. std reel from 8 seconds free spool to 55 seconds free spool with a few minutes polishing

whether that makes a difference for casting distance in the real world with bait etc attached is another thing.. but a damn good rush seeing that reel spin so long.

Who said anything about casting!!!

I just love to see a piece of old fashioned, solid machinery outperform cheap plastic stuff.

I use an ear bud to polish inside the brass bushings and put the spool in the drill chuck and polish the ends with newspaper soaked in brasso.

Vvvrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

If you want to actually use the reel then you have to pack the bushings with blue outboard grease to slow it down!

I had my reels magged by Jonathan and WOW...... the speedmaster coupled with a beastmaster gave me between 130-150 m on my 1st cast, with a strong side wind. After that i packed up coz the wind was just way too strong to get any joy on the fishing front, but i was impressed with the reel. I bet when i get used to the reel after a days fishing, that distance will improve. Jonathan buddy, you did an amazing job on those reels.

:shock:...Damn...That Jiggy is VERY FINE!!!....Still have mine...BUT..its that later Hi Speed one with ally spool...

have 500A best reel ever , easy to throw 80-100mtrs and easy to pull apart and service and clean , 2x penn 49 have been put on pension , although they both throw perfect , its the ease of the 500A that i love ..........

Dang this reel is in prestine condition and well looked after.
