I've been living in the windy city for almost 2 and 1/2 years now and have neglecting my fishing terribly. Don't really know all of the "holes" so give me a shout next time you go make a cast. I am mostly geared up for edibles.

Thanks

Hi PE guy,

At least you got there and tried.. Where else do you go that's not too crowded? And do you often head for the water?

I mainly fish Swartkops.

I only have light tackle and a total amature but i try.:fishn

fishing is not so good here anymore not much happening unless you try for sharks and rays but the tackle is big bucks!!!!!

I just fish for the fun of it.::jest   ::happyd:::prty:

Yes my sentiments exactly! We must meet up sometime.

But the 19kg garrick sounds excellent! Where did you caught it and when?

i used to go camping at van stadens when i was in school.

spent the whole day fishing in the river with live bait for garrick and caught plenty. so i tried in the surf with a biggish stumpnose as live bait and almost died of a heart attack when something took it, thaught it was a shark and to my surprise it was the biggest garrick i have ever seen. i was about 15 at the time and loving the glory when i got back to camp with this beast.

lady luck was looking out for me that day.

best time of my life.

Have been out maybe 10 times in the last two years. Have been to Swartkops mouth and there opposite the rod club, caught a few small fish and one shad on a krewel. Other places include the rocks at Something Good, on the old “pier” across the street from the Dolphinarium, Blou gat and Maitlands. None with good success. That’s why I am in agreement that the fishing kinda sucks in and around PE. Not to mention the over-crowdyness at some spots (have you seen the littering going on at Blougat?!)... hate it!

However, I have seen some exciting posts on catches in PE on Sealine so maybe it’s a just a case of me not knowing where and when to go cast a line (amongst other things). Maybe some of the more knowledgeable guys can help out??

Take your light tackle equipment and go and play in the gullies, all the way from Flat Rocks to the MPA that starts by the Cannon.

Some pilchard and some chokka and you will have more fun than you can handle.

Pack as lite as you can, you want the ability to move around and fish all the gullies. If a piece of water doesn't deliver in 5 minutes then move on.

If a piece delivers, chum that area a little, wait a few minutes and ALL HELL WILL BREAK LOOSE !!

EVERYWHERE from Flatrocks all the way down Marine Drive

and be careful
at the right time (especially in the Flat Rocks to Cape Receive Area) BIG ELF are known to come into the gullies.

Thanks Neilg. I dont know where all these places are: Flatrocks, MPA and cannon? I wonder if someone has all (or some) of these places marked as waypoints on garmin or google earth. Something like Marshie (?) has submitted wrt Swartkops?

Yes they will produce, especially the smaller ones.

A lesson that I learnt.

IF NOTHING (artificial) works, don't be to proud to give the real thing a go.

Remember in these gullies you will mostly be encountering Blacktail and the other reef dwellers, ofcourse cob, elf and other fish might just make a surprise visit ...

A BIG blacktail on light tackle ... SHE'S GOOD FUN.

If you can please CHUM the water !!! It changes a boring trip to a good one and changes a good one to a GREAT ONE.

LOOK FOR DA WHITE WATER with structure.

Us PE guys should all get together for a social day, either at the river or a day in the gullies. One spends so much time talking over the net learning tips, It would be great to see them for real!
