One part cake flour
Two parts mealie meal
Three parts water, pinch of salt.
If cooked on stovetop, boil water first, then set the stove to simmer. Add salt and rest of ingredients. Stir . Relace lid, must cook slowly, stirring often. When cooked, any flavour, custard, etc. can be added. Knead the pap until you have the right texture.

Microwave, mix ell together, put in microwave, nuke it fir a min, stir well, nuke it again, stir well. Cover with clingwrap when putting in microwave, repeat. Takes about 6 min. Remember to knead it well when cooked.

Having worked in a maize mill, generally the mealie meal you buy off the shelf has had the germ removed and really is plain starch +- 45%. If you really want good old fashioned pap, you need to include the germ as well. I used to mill up a 50kg sack of maize, germ included and use this for pap. Night shift the guys would come to my office in the early hours of the morning for a hot bowl of pap porrage. There is a huge difference in texture and taste plus the goodness of the product hasn't been removed. Never heard of mixing flour (wheat) with mealie meal.

I think Tigernut is reffering to pap for fishing and not to share with his mates at the breakfast table :fbash

Three tablespoons water in a ziplock bag - add 2 tablespoons maize and 1 tablespoon cake flour and stirr.

Boil the kettle and put the ziplock inside the kettle with a piece sticking out the lid then close the lid and hold the power on for 4 minutes.

I normally make 3 different backings;
1 x custard
1 x plain
1 x salt:fishn

Another way is to take 2 cups of the same size and fill one with boiling water and the other with three quaters maize flour and the rest cake flour, now pour the water in a bowl and add the flour mix to the water until a smooth cosistency.Put in the microwave for one and a half minutes and then stirr well and put back in the microwave for another minute and a half, all you do now is to put the pap on a table to cool a bit and then mix your custard in.

Absolutely correct. If I were to have served them up what type of bait you guys are refering to, both I and the bowl of pap would have ended up being thrown out through the window.
You obviously can see I know @$&#* about carp fishing. Tight lines.
