Palm Beach, KZN South Coast

Hi all
I'm going down to Palm Beach at the begining of April for a short holiday. Would like to get into the water.

Just a few questions:
1.What is the regulation on the MPA at Mpenjati? I know beach fishing is allowed.
2.What fish can one expect during this time?
3.Where is some nice shore dive spots?
4.How is the currents in this area?

Any help would be appreciated.

hi im not sure exactly where palm beach is but i live on the south coast amanzimtoti and the water has been dirty and the sea big for 2 months now.its terible.i think the only guys coming right are those with boats.

Hi Japie

I've been going down to Palm Beach for the past 15 years (we have a place at The Palms), the spearfishing is not the greatest down there but there is a variety of species that do come around now and again.

Wrt your questions:

1.What is the regulation on the MPA at Mpenjati? I've never had a problem spearing in the MPA but at the same time the viz is pretty bad 95% of the time so rather go
2.What fish can one expect during this time? Ive shot Rockcod and a few Zebra's and mussle cracker and once shot a salmon of about 12kg"s
3.Where is some nice shore dive spots? Best shore dive spot is near Shadrock (near the caravan park), there is a reef about 50 meters out.
4.How is the currents in this area? Currents are not an issue

Please indicate Shad Rock on the picture attached. I really don't know this area. How deep is most of these areas?
From this picture it seams as if there are alot of nice scatterred reefs around which should hold fish.

Hope it helps. You are looking at about diving an average of 5-6meters
