hi all, im still pretty new to spearfishing, but loving it.. i just need some help from u pro's

is it possible to over power a gun by putting on a rubber that is 2 strong for yr gun??

i have a rob allen 1300 rail gun (single rubber) and replaced the rubber a lil while ago, to the fattest 1 i could get, my spear pulled out of 2 fish the next time i used it, the spear didnt even penetrate throu the fish... could it be because the rubber is 2 powerfull for my gun/spear and failing to fire it correctly?

or am i just lacking those killer skills..

Hiya

YES, you can overpower a gun. What will happen is that the spear will start to wobble, making it in-accurate and less powerfull.

Rob Allan railguns have a RAIL on which the spear rests. This helps eliminate spear wobble, allowing you to use more powerfull bands. Instead of one 20mm band, rather fit 2x16mm bands. They will be more powerful and easier to load.

I rather doubt that a single 20mm band can overpower your gun. Merely because you would need a VERY, VERY short band, which will be EXTREMELY difficult to load.

The most reliable way to test your gun is to do some target practice, either in a pool or the sea, on a STATIONERY object. This way you can SEE how accurate your gun is. To test it whilst spearing is not a reliable way, as there are simply too many variables that will affect your shot. Sometimes you get one of THOSE days, when you just can't hit anything. Happens to all of us every so now and then.......

thank you Miles for the info

u seem like a very knowledgeable spearo and yr help is much appreciated!

i think some target practice is a must. im also going to try get a double rubber 'head' for my gun as it is a bitch to load.

happy hunting

What i want to know is how much tension can the mechanism take? Obviously depends per manufacturer, but generally. An accidental release due to mech failure wouldnt be good!
