Orange river Yellows

So last week apart from trying to catch me a specimen I barbel http://www.sealine.co.za/view_topic.php?id=10170&forum_id=64&page=2

My wife friends and myself dabbled in a bit of yellowfish fishing. The water was freezing - about 14'C so one could not stand in the water for too long without getting cold.

De Wet who's family was kind enough to put us up a few days with his family whom live in that beautiful part of the world was rewarded with a gigantic Largemouth Yellow on a Salmo hornet no 4 (Insist on Salmo they really work...............LOL).

As for the missus and myself well I desperately want to catch a LM Yellow but this time I was not so fortunate - However the missus pulled a nice one - not massive but it did give here a good fight also caught on the Same Hornet No4.

De Wet took us to another spot and whilist I picked up the fly rod and with a new technique learned from Marno just the weekend before I started Czech Nymphing and it was not long before I went tight on my first small mouth for the trip. In the Interim De Wet picked up a very nice size SM yellow on Salmo Hornet no 4. By this time I was slaughtering the yellows and catching them on just about every drift.

I came back later in the Day to the same spot with the missus and she tried her hand at up stream nymphing and caught a few fish whilist I stuck to the Czech style and well caught dozens - all too soon the water got too cold for the missus and we went to join the others.

The following morning we decided to go back to the spot and this time I tackled the Wife's rod up for Czech Nymphing - with this method she put me to shame I spent more time taking pictures of the fish she was catching than catching myself and everytime I went to put the camera away she would hook another. In 2 hours we caught over 40 fish (admittedly she caught at least 30 of them) None of them monsters but everyone a fighter. All yellows were released unharmed to do battle another day. Krissie was even pulling 2 yellows on the same line as with the czech nymphing style one fishes with 3 flies......

Thanks for a great time......

Here some photies

Beautifull Ryan. Pity the LM Yellows are so scarce since they get very big and are a treat to get hooked into. Saw one >1m long in the Vaal dam last time I was there, but it saw me too ;-)

Well done Krissie and camera-crew,what a beautiful venue for a second-honeymoon.

@Skaaptjop ,for a bloke with such a nice barbel-pic in his profile, you are way to scarce on the barbel-forums.

I thought the background, looked very similar to some of Ryan's pics, remember we are all learning everyday, and if you dont ask questions or offer advice, you are keeping precious info from other members(sharing is caring) LOL:fbash
