Orange River Mouth

Hi Zane / Enigma,

I have fished there consistenetly for several years and have never see Bronzies.....

As for Barber they are very scares close to the river mouth....

It is probably one of the best fishing places along the south african coast line.

One day after spending some time in the river mouth without results,  I move to aprox 800 meters from the mouth targeting Cob / West Coast Steenbras, I had 5 / 0 hooks on and had sardine and crayfish bait mixed on each hook.... surprise I landed two galgoe on these hooks above 2.5 kg....

hey im fishing the orange river too but alot higher up! but any way there are alot of yellows in the orange river its just i did not know that they can live in the salt water as well!
are there carp down there as well?

I have never caught Carp / Babel at the mouth.... only yellofish!

how far up the river from the mouth are you getting carp?

The first time i ever caught a Yellow fish was near the mouth of the Orange river about 27 years ago when we went to visit my brother-in-law who was working up there. We really had a laugh that we caught them on millies as we are saltwater fishermen and it was also cool having to chase off the packs of donkeys that were harassing us; do you still get jackal and Gemsbok in town?

I have left the area about 10 years ago.  Not sure what is roaming arround there now.

I can add this, you still caught yellows in the surf by the rivers mouth between the cob & steenbras, the jackals are still roaming around there, not sure if they still get into the town, I haven't seen any donkeys, but the gemsbok & ostriches are fine & well!

The Gemsbok used to stay on some islands below the bridge to Oranjemund, on the odd ocassion some of them actually drowned and washed out at the river mouth.  They were very tame in Oranjemund.... walked in the streets and grazed in some of the peoples gardens...
