On the weekend of 2012-08-10 the Kleinzee Angling Club hosted our annual freshwater competition, called the "Vioolsdrift Ope".  This competition is hosted in a stretch of water starting just east of the Vioolsdrift border post and ending just west of the start of the Richtersveld park.

So with the weather forecast not looking to great the anglers started of Friday afternoon.  Rain & storm winds battered them Friday night & Saturday morning, but by Saterday afternoon the sun was shining and some anglers had high hopes, as a lot of carp in the 3-4 Kg range was caught, as well as some nice yellows (small mouth).  The surprise of the day turned out to be something else.

Some photos of the anglers awaiting the big one:

Eventually Saturday lines out arrived and some eager faces was getting together at the weigh in point, which was at Aquacade.

Some decided to let fate be and rather supported the bar.

Eventually the fish was weight and the score master locked himself in his cabin to work out the scores:

Meanwhile the barbers was safely release back into the river.

Preferred bait of the day was "pit mielies" for the yellows, and chicken livers for the barber.

Normally a fish head cut off just behind the gills works best around here, but on this day it was the chicken livers that did the damaged.
