This is a photo of my late dad's wooden scarborough reel.
It is 16 cm across, and in excellent working order. I use it now and then to throw spoons for shad, or groundbait for edibles. You can set the drag with the center drag screw.
Its a masterpiece of turning ability & its pinned in 6 positions & glassed. The bearing journal, handles & bracket were all hand made by the same guy. Whoever made that reel really knew his stuff & it probably is perfectly balanced & runs forever. It appears to be polished with french chalaque rather than varnished. Must feel like velvet in your hands. I'm jealous!
