I know I'm not the first one to do so, but I just wanted to say thanks to Old Salt (Jonathan) from another satisfied customer.

I took my reels (20/40 and a SL50) to him last week and got them back in no time.  I'll go so far as to say that the reels are in a better condition now than the day I got them!  If anybody in Cape Town needs to service their reels, I wouldn't think about it twice - and at the price he charges for the work done he's almost doing himself a disservice.

You can see that it is a real passion of his, and it was great to have a chat to him too - very friendly guy.  Once again, thanks for the great job!

Hi all and especially to the “reel master” himself, Old Salt. This post might take a while but I don't care!!

I was devastated and heartbroken. My favourite reel, the Shimano Stradic, the one I had caught my PB Gallie of 45cm with, had retired and died– salt-encrusted, even though I had tried to revive it. Heartbroken, I begged and pleaded with Old Salt to save it and he said he would see what he could do, but told me no promises. A day or so later he said, oh dear – what you done? What did you do to your reel? I reelly don’t know if it can be repaired. I told him I believed that he could do it – I trusted him completely with my “baby”. And I prayed really hard.

Last Saturday came and my phone rang – it was Jonathan! Do I answer it? My heart squeezed tightly inside my chest. His first words to me were – are you sitting or standing down? I felt like somebody was handing down a sentence! It took a few minutes of him taunting before he gave me the verdict and I am happy to announce that he did it. I have been converted. Actually I was converted before he even looked at my reel. A most humble and amazing man. I had visions of having to buy a new reel and even went and priced a few. But this man brought my reel back to life and it is even better than when I took it out of the box.

Jonathan, may our Lord bless you abundantly for the work you do so selflessly. I understand that it is your passion and it shows in the love you have for repairing reels and the pleasure you give others in restoring their precious reels to their original condition.

I didn’t mean to waffle on but it can’t be helped. You are one in a million. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

God bless you and your family.
