Nice catches Wade. Fowl hooking fish is one of the many reasons why I stress ,use circle hooks, yesterday had 8 bites and 7 fish were successfully hooked using circles not bad considering that they were all smaller bags and they harder to get a good hook-up on. Just think if you were using a circle hook with that raggie, you could have landed him in 10 minutes and then used the rest of the time to try and catch more fish.

Don't forget you landed one that never even had the hook in it's mouth and that is the problem with small raggies. Especially when using head baits they just chew on it.
The bait you use makes more difference than the hook. In leauge I'd also say J hooks are better because you never know big or small or what speicie the next bite will be.

if i used a circle hook i would of missed that raggy and thats 87 points gone and some else couldve caught it, fowl hooking a fish is genrally because the fish wasnt camitted to the bait and didnt have the bait in its mouth, heres a 83.4cm(17kg) brown ray caught at durban on a bait squid with a grinder and FLUKES old blue marlin hehe

it was all good, the u/21s came 1st, we came 4th but my fish got disqualified because im too old apparently, KZN won with a score of 30 points, day 2 we had 32 points and on day 3 we got dropped to 14 points, so we would of won the u/16s aswell if i wasnt disquilified bw_l_)

Matthew why give advise when it is not asked. This oke has caught more fish than most people on sealine, and still u lecture? You still have a lot to learn it seems when it comes to fishing etiquette. I sure hope you start to see the light before you meet the wrong oke at waters edge. Just my 2c worth........ oh and well done wade, some awesome catches there. I also live in Gonubie now so give me a shout when you are fishing the point again.

those brown rays are very strong!! they dont stop fighting until they are landed, my drag was tight and it still ran about 100m on the 1st run, and that fish knows how to use the currents, as long as you know how to use the waves to pull ur fish then ur golden! i noticed a few oaks not using the waves that were braking on the shore, and they ended up fighting the fish an extra 10min longer, luckily iv learnt through shark fishing that you must pull as hard as you can when that fish in in the wave.... thanx katot, i often get cherped here and there by oaks on what to do, i know what to do and how to do it, if im stuck or need help i'll ask for assistance, in league you wouldnt be caught dead with a circle hook, if i throw out a mullet bait with 2 10/0 hooks for a raggy, im hoping the catch a 200kg raggy right down to a sand shark, with a circle hook you cant catch that sand shark, marble ray or a small diamond that was nibbling your bait, points are points... Tight lines guys!!::tight:
