Okuma Azores Z65

Hi Guys

Just wanted to get input from you okes on here with a issue I am having with my Azores.

I bought the reel new last week from Ganis and went fishing with it the past weekend.
There seems to be allot of play on the rotor and spool and it feels loose. Has anyone experienced this with there reel as well? I did take off the spool to check if the retainer nut that holds the rotor in place is loose or not but it wasnt?

Just wanted to get some info before I contact Okuma.

Thanks all and tight lines!

Call Hussain from Gani's and have the reel replaced/evaluated by Okuma via the retailer before something goes wrong

Enigma, in a case like this, if you have serviced the reel before using it and something then goes wrong, will they still take it back if it is not too long after purchasing it?

Regarding the issue, could it maybe be the same as what happened to the Penn Spinfisher that Alan Hawk tested and reviewed? I think the threads on the pinion gear failed/stripped. http://www.alanhawk.com/reviews/spf.html

But please let us know what went wrong, really interested in this specific reel. But if it's a major issue I'm rather going to steer clear.

If you had a look and didn't damage or destroy anything on the reel by force etc then they will assist.

Even the odd motor vehicle hits the market as a dud.

It's not impossible that a small part failed or that someone dropped it on the ground (in manufacturer, in transit, at the distributors warehouse, at the retailer or in transit from the retailer to you)

Retail products pass through lot of hands, so anything is possible.

actually we should all open our reels and add some lubrication!!!
oil grease etc.

they put in just enough from the factory to get the nice smooth running feeling

damage would occur quite quickly if the reel has a proper workout!

Yes and often although the reel is your reel......

It was manufactured and spent 1-6 months between Manufacturer and Brand house.

Then from 1 month to 2 years in the Distributor's warehouse

Then 1 day to 3 years at the retailer so your new reel could be 6 months to 5 years old so the grease and oils have dissipated or hardened etc, etc

Thanks Enigma I'll go that route then.
I haven't opened the reel at all to inspect only removed the spool to check if the retainer nut isn't loose.

I will give feedback on here with the outcome as soon as I hear something.

I agree 100% Willem.

As a rule I do this with all my new reels although in this case all the screws on the reel has Spline/Torx heads and I didnt have time before the long weekend to get the correct tools for the job.
That said over the weekend the reel only caught a wildeperd of about 30cm so I'm sure it didn't get damaged from a hard workout ((wideeye))

if the retainer of the rotor did strip I fail to see how oiling and servicing would have prevented this or even if the lubricants are old how a once of use without a service can lead to a fail, pre-servicing is obviously a very good practice, but there must be a fault on the reel

The reel being faulty was not questioned

The pre-service and the why was an add on to the discussion.

Try this. Take the spool off. Check the Nut/Bolt type thing, where the shaft comes through is tight. If not the top part of the reel will wobble like you said. I recently had the same problem with. Just tighten it up. Problem sorted. NB it tightens up in opposite direction, anti clockwise.

Lol mine was also an Okuma reel. Works perfectly since.

Thanks Cobia

That is one of the first things that I checked on the reel but found that it was on tight.

Update at the moment is that Ganis is replacing the reel and should be delivered by Wednesday.
Also informed Okuma about the issue and was urged to rather send it back to the shop for a replacement.

I'm sure the new one will have the issue sorted.

Tight Lines everyone!
