Okavango River Namibia May 2012

Fishing (catch and release) in the Okavango river, the border between Namibia and Angola, is one of the most tranquil and rewarding experiences for a sport fisherman. The river subsided considerably by the end of the rainy season (end April) with very pleasant weather. Excellent conditions for fishing. I caught and released more than 50 Nembwe and other briem species along with countless amounts of smaller ("malkop") and bigger (3-6kg) Tiger fish (5days). Most of the time was spend drifting live and dead bait for tigerfish. During the drifts I was casting double bladed copper spoons with 2 single hooks for nembwe and briem. Off course the tigers also attacked the spoons and many were caught that way. The bigger tigers opened up the small hooks that I used on the spoons.
Impression: The strike of a large (even small) tiger fish must be among the best in fishing

You had a great trip! Would it be possible to shed some information on the accomodation, boats and costs involved?

Kaskar I stayed at Makena Campsite. It is about 120 km east of Rundu. Camping is R100pp/night. They have excellent facilities (hot showers, toilet and thatched kitchens including fridge with an outlook on the river)
They also have aluminium boats that they use to take clients for fishing. You can also bring your own boat.
PM me if you want their contact details
