Offshore trolling reels,

Hi guys.

Im a bit confused here between star drag and lever drag systems on multiplier reels,

What is the diffenrence between the multipliers the guys fishing rock-surf, and the guys trolling deepsea?

Can one use reels like a sealine, saltist and the shimano torium or speedmaster?

Ussualy guys fishing deepsea uses more the Shimano TLD leverdrag as similiar reels.

Can one use such rock/surf star drag reels for offshore trolling?

Do the size of the reels of rock/surf and offshore differ?
And in terms of the gear ratio, will it be suitable?

Is it possible to use such reel for trolling?
I have this feeling there is a reason, but i cant seem to find it?

Please help.

Bos Suzi, star drag reels are fine I use them all the time, lever drags work well for your bigger fish as you pre set the drag. I use all the reels you have mentioned. Good luck.

just to make it clear, on a lever drag reel, the drag is preset, ie, you know what the drag is set to at strike.

pushing it further forward, to maximum will increase the total drag by another third.

so you can fish confidently, knowing what the drag is set too.
because the boat rods are shorter, you can exert more pressure and also break off easily.

its a safety measure.
sure you can you your star drag reels.
if you want too.

the tld range of reels one cannot use as a casting reel from the shore, it was never intended to be that way.
the new torsa range is made to cast with the added lever drag.
