How was the fishing? I stayed at place on north bank last year, and launching was an issue as you had to wait for high tide to launch. The weather was mostly unfishable for the week i was there (it was during july ) and I only managed 1 day out on js, caught reef fish.

Zippo,
Please note launching out of the Mdumbi river or Mthatha River is illegal. They are not regfistered launch sites, and if caught launching there, you will have your ski confiscated by the authorities.
Unfortunately the launch fees are high, and as the Vice commidor of the club its an issue we are still fisghting. The community take over 50% of the launch fees plus we have to pay the launch monitor to be Employed. These are conditions that the DEAT launch site permit was issued to Tshani Deep Sea angling club.We also need to try to recover some of the more than 40,000 we have spent to get the launch site permit issued, as well as repairs to the launch site, which takes a hammering especially in the winter storms.
If boats use the illegal launch sites, it gives DEAT ammo to close allt he transkei launch sites as they say thay are unmanagembel and cant be checked for illegal activity. It took me personally almost 1.5years to get mdumbi open and legal again and irresponsible comments like you rather taking the free but illegal option will jeapodize the status of the launch and the nearest alternative launch is then Hole in the wall. Note Tshani deep sea angling club has 30 memebrs and 14 boats only so the costs of running the launch are huge (given the limited memebership)
Out of interest our permit prohibits jetski's for some reason, but we have chosen to ignore this as its discriminatory, but we will enforce it over dec etc if the guys are illesponsible and ride amongst the swimmers etc. If for fishing, we view it the same as a boat. All these are up for discussion again at the AGM in Dec.

Tthe community view deepsea fisherman as all being rich and want to milk us dry even though by having visitors the community benefits. They would rather collect as much from 1 person than a bit less from many. Typical africa. Its something I am slowly working on them for.

I do however see their arguement, we arrive with 100-500,000 boats and complain about R300 launch fees.
Please contact me to discuss further if you wish. i am also in EL.
I will also be discussing denzils comments with him as all illegal activity will seriously hamper our launch permit.
Regards
Tshani Deep Sea Angling Club

tkei thank you for the valueble info regarding the legality of launching from Mthata mouth,we dont have a problem paying R300-00 launch fees per day but i do have a problem with paying launch fees 2x in one day,we went fishing early in the morning until 11:30AM we had lunch and returned a short while later to do some trawling we were then advised that we had to pay again,i do agree it takes a lot of efford and money to maintain the slipway, but dont dont take advantage of the people that contribute towards the maintenance of the slipway,i am sorry if my comments sound harsh, can you be as kind as to post the membership fess to join the club and the launching fees cost for a club member,as i would like to use the facility more in the future :fishn

Hi Zippo, I am sorry, but you should never have been charged twice to launch on the same day. I will take this up with them and will try to get the cash back as a refund to you, as that is unreasonable in anyones terms. If you have copies of the launch permits issued let me know and i will take it further. Unfortunately the "employee" is community issued and isnt the best at speaking english etc so maybe its a communication issue. If you didnt get issued with the permits, then thats another uissue all together as then there is no way of checking cash received etc.

you can PM me regarding that. I will also PM you with the club setup. maybe you already know a club member who can propose you, otherwise if you are already a memebr at another club I sit on the Border committee so one of them could "approve you" if you know what I mean.

Good day
I am going to Mdumbi on June. Would like to know if it is safe to launch a fishing kayak from Mdumbi/Mtata mouths?
I am happy to pay launch fees etc.
Also, will it be worthwhile paddling out there?
Have you perhaps got a few waypoints etc?
Would be more than willing to compensate for valuabale information.
thank you kindly
Theo
