Occyleg Hook snoot Setup for hole legs[adjustable]

Theres certainly one bait i love to fish with from river or surf , Theres a number of ways one can rig it up , because , no self respecting fish will this meal pass .

i have fished this with a long sinker line 80cm let say , and a short hook snoot , about 40cm , reason behind the trace i dont use a float with a occyleg 90% of the time . Or in rivers you can just use a normal grunter trace [sliding ball sinker ] .

what you will need .

2 hooks , this is a skelm hook setup , I use kendal rounds , Bass hooks , Circles what ever you are confident in ,the sharper the hook the more 'manageble ' the baiting up will be !

a bead , and a toothpick

then its pretty simple from here , the only diffrent thing you do is to jam a toothpick into the bead , what ever lenth your bait allows you to .

now you can bait up and move your Skelmpie just where MR Fish bite it on the previous cast . LOL

THINGS TO REMEMBER .

Jam the toothpick in from behind ,when you cast it will just allow less play [thus the whole point of a long straight presentation are out ].

You ,can also split the occyleg in the lenth and cut a long thin piece of foam , cotton it up , and the hook it , cotton again .

Occylegs are tuff , be light on the cotton ,or elastics , your bait will look more appealing to hungry fish , and more realistic ect .

This is a great bait on a circlehook ,just the bottom hook ,again this is just my prefrance.

TIGHT LINES !:fishn:fishn:fishn

like the toothpick in the bead idea... i sometimes use the skelm freerunning and sometimes make a knot in the trace, but neither are as accurate as what you do...

I do put a toothpick inside those bright orange float things if i use them... then you can move the float closer to your bait and you know it will stay there.

What you've shown here is also a very good pilchard and chokka trace if you use the float above the setup....

Yes , The idea behind the jamming up the bead , keeps your long thin bait straight . you can then just split the tail part below the hook and have a killer bait with hooks PROUD!

I have taken a couple of Crackers too on this trace , the bead also helps prevent, wear and tear on the knot , if you hook into a monster and will have to fight long period of time !

I also like that bead idea. So simple and yet I've never thought of it. Thanks TOE 007. I'm going to rig this idea into my live bait trace::respekt:

yes you can also use it as a livie trace , i would then put the circle in the front , and the SKELM below .

I was thinking the same. Most of my livies get chowed by shad and a smaller skelm hook near the tail would work great

toe when i use occy leg, if it's a bigger leg, i slide it up thin part first and make a cut in the thick part so it has 2 "tassles near the main hook. I also give it a few wacks with the chokka hammer and pull some of the skin off and leave parts with torn skin. I've found it looks more like a piece of occie that's been washed around a bit.

I only , skin them completely , or just leave it natruaral , i have found in the Breede they like them skinned and in Gourits, they like then just like that Strange isnt it ? but being fishing , there most problaly guys that will say the oppisite LOL

Giving it a good old beating , has alway been a good idea
