Not doing it right!

Hi All, very new to Sealine and recently got into the Conv Carp Angling. Got 99.9999% of the tackle neccesary for the job to be donw but nothing is happening. Taking the mates along and they seem to be catching more fish than the man with the plan.

Biggest problem i have is that my line hangs over the water its a battle for me to get the policeman the sit properly suspended in the air, i cast i set the rod on the rid stand but then bang once the policeman is on the line sags to the water(does it even if i dnt use the policeman)

 

i battle to see bites on the rare occasion that i do have them, did manage to pick up a 6kg carp at Roodeplaat Hengelaarsvriend but the lighties next to me caught several!

any ideas?

dude.. welcome..

please elaborate.. lines go in water.. if the policman sits in the water you need to reel in mate..

But ja .. maybe someone else speaks

Hi Gert, My bad on not being clear. everytime i reel in the policeman dives to the water. ive been out now maybe 8 times and havent got it right, i get good distance (well it looks that way when i cast) What bothers me is the presentation if i look to the guys on my left/right they have all their line sin the water and it looks pretty tight and the policeman are lined up. next time i take a pic and post, i tried using a sinker and that worked well but then i had to use alittle less mielea bomb.

DUDE STOP USING BLICKS AS Policemen..

1 weight must be heavier than policement..

2 wind can drag your sinker out and thus lower your policmen in the water..

3 When you cast you might have slack in the line which taks some time for your policement to take out( will fall until slack is out)

4. Weight must be heavier than policemen..

ps. ensure that you dont reel too much resulting in jour bait beeing dragged into the mud ... your bait must always REST on the botom...

@ Naruto its the standard rietvlei trace and the policeman are various cant give you the actual weights, i have little tiny ones and then slightly bigger ones, most of them have a place for me to put in the disco sticks. does one have to wait awhile for the trace to settle before putting on the policeman

It depends how deep the water is. But just keep tightening the line until it settles. Doesn't sound any different from what I do. So give it time to reach the bottom and you should be fine.

One other possible issue is that you might be positioning the policeman to far down the line causing relatively high tension on the line

Roodeplaat is very deep in certain areas and very small weight take a long time to settle and then there is a naturally large bow in the line to pull out.

Join us at the clinic 24 Apr and see and do, hands on always than an online discusion to sort it out.

Welcome to Sealine...

I'd say use a heavier sinker.

About the issue of your mates catching and you not, just relax... I know the feeling. When I started fishing years ago I had the same problem... Everyone would be catching and I'd start to change up my rigs etc trying to do what they did and it just made it worse...

Just relax and do what you know. Sometimes when we know too much we confuse ourselves and miss the obvious which is the basics...

i think what may help when you cast keep an eye on your baits as its gonna hit the water i guess about 5/6 meters before it hits water stop the line this will pull all the slack/bow out of line,give it a go might work
