Craig most off our sliding are done of deep water points so getting your slide tangled up is not a big concern and also for getting stuck we go lighter on the sinker-stopper connection so that normaly breaks there first

 

while testing a R25 slide, spring steel and all the swivel poped same one that Kopstamp posted in the pics above.Where with the power swivels I realy feel you do not have to stress.

Re the thimble...never had one do that before?

What knot did you tie on the stopper/thimble? Also, I've got one of your slides in my hand as we speak and I recong the coils need to be slightly larger?

The knot and smaller coils is possibly the reason for the thimble breaking?

Very neat work chaps and I would def have a look at the 2mm clips. Great stuff PE chaps!

Hiya Craig,

No need for steel...just another knot to have to worry about?

Have you tried a 1.3mm upwards to a 2mm leader directly onto the stopper ring as a connection?

Plenty of VERY big fish and long battles on this setup.

We used a figure 8 on the thimble. However the force i pulled could never match a rod. We will test soon with a rod to see what force we can be exerted and what the slide will look.

The 2mm ones are made. will bring test sample soon.

Hi guys
First post for me.

Going to moz soon and looking for something to keep me busy. Where would i be able to get some s/s wire and are you guys using a jig to build these or just by hand. Made one from a bicycle spoke yesterday just to show a buddy how it works. Would be nice if i could make my own and keep costs down on the moz trip>

I don't fish such heavy leaders, 1mm and 1,2(at a push) is all you'll find in my box! All these massively thick leaders are overkil! Where has all the skill gone? I did recently try some tapered leaders in Morgans Bay. Those worked well but I still used a piece of steel before the stopper ring. There is a second reason why I will always use steel there but I can't give away all my secrets now can I!!

Graig I have to agree I am not the biggest okes out there and found that the tick leaders are hampering my distance .
I know Trophy dont like a steel to nylon leader connection one extra knot that can fail.

But I have not had one break , HEAVY BRICKS and I will go up in diameter and skip the steel.

Most of the slides I've destroyed have been when using the leader to land a fish on the bricks.

This can be a critical time in the fight and you put a lot more than 7kg pressure onto the slide in the time you are leadering the fish.

Leader work is when hooks are straightened and swivels are broken

Slides look good and plenty strong.

What skill ?

The reasons are simple...
- u don't need steel on your leader
- U have less knots
- u don't have to redo the steel section after every fish
- once u have the leader in hand u can pull a fish

Some use a 200lb mono leader and others use a 200lb piece of wire, no difference.

I normally use between 1mm and 1.5mm depending on location

Are u using a wind-on or knots ?

St francis point as an example is very foul, deep water with reefs, rocks, black messels, here u need thicker than 1.2mm

Skill is the ability to know that u should match equipment to location, conditions and all obstacles, turning the odds in your favour.

Don't get me wrong, I prefer 1mm, it casts much better than the weedeater line !

As to why the line cut the thimbles.

These test slides were small 1.6 mm tig rods with a spring ID of 6mm Thus the slide stopped on the thimble and not on the ring.

By increasing the ID to 9mm the spring sets against the stopper and whala no cut up thimbles.

Hi Craig Trophy actualy mentioned this in one off the post above I just did not read properly and had to learn the hard way
