More success???The last comp was such a big success that its going to be difficult to do it better...but im sure it will be, thanks Robin.
Hopefully the prize giving will be better with no rain...hehehe

If Rain is a problem I could always help out as I'm used to doing things like braai-ing in the rain, no i didn't go and start the braai when it was already raining, it started when I was already braai-ing...:fbash

Hey Basslover, just a Q...

i see that live bait is legal and all, but what is the rules regarding finding live bait? do you have to get the livebait AT the dam you are fishing? or are you allowed to bring live bait...2nd prob not legal...

Well 1stly its difficult to manage the guys, bringing livebait or getting livebait at the dam, but would rather want the guys to use livebait that they catch at the dam,
2ndly: we have looked at all of the legislations for Gauteng and could not find anything illegal about it.
Where did you hear it is illegal? If you have this on black and white or you know someone that does have this on black and white please e-mail me(my email adress is on the KBBC website), because we really do not want to do anything ilegal, but we do want to give anglers a chance to use their skills(livebait or lures)to catch bass in a competition environment...
Maybe a lot of people are going to shoot us down about this, but then they will have to shoot down a lot of saltwater anglers too....

It is illegal to move fresh water fish from one body of water to another without the nessary permit from Nature Conservation.
Fishing with Live bait is not permitted in certain provinces

The first part is true and if you bring livebait from elsewhere you are committing an offense and could be prosecuted according to the 2005 ordinance. I think it is only common sense that says the rules for any public competition can not supersede the law....lol unless it is the IBC where you dont need COF's or skippers tickets :-o

However according to the new 2005 ordinance, no where does it state that using live bait is illegal. Under the old ordinance you were allowed live bait in KZN but not in the Transvaal but that ordinance has come and gone.

Pomerob I agree with you - I am not current with the latest laws - they have changed so drastically.

However Bringing fish (livebait) you guys should make a comp ruling that only fish out of the water being fished maybe used. I would hate to see the likes of murry park infested with Goldfish or KOI. hehe nice to see you guys have been doing your homework

I've just read this post and have a question. Why do we practise catch and release but allow live bait to be used? Is this not a bit contradictory? I thought the entire idea behind catch and release is to make fishing more eco-friendly?

Good point, but sometimes you have no choice, meaning that whilst you reel in the small fry that initially grabbed your lure a steam train hit's it, and there you go, you just caught a monster using live bait....... but hooking a live small fish and casting that into the water is as far as eco-friendly fishing concerned, not making sense.... so I agree with that statement.  Having said that, how's the salty fisho's gonna cath some species (been watching ESA) if they do use live bait and yet they also practise catch and release.

This is at best a very controversial and heavily debateable topic.
