Newbies Ignorance

Hi Guys

I finally made peace with my rod and took it out after about 6 years. still trying to figure ut the right side to it, but went fishing to the Municipal area near Jim Fouche's this weekend.

before you ask - we only caught a couple of small silvers using brown bread.

Ok so what i want to know - many moons back when i thought about becoming a fisherman and bought all this equipment - i recall we use to buy a fishing license - do we still need to buy this - and is it still just popping into your tackle shop or whats the setup now?

Ok - next - I really know nothing about fishing, so before even starting let me apologise for all the stupid questions i will be asking

Once in a pink moon (even rarer than a blue moon) there will be guys who come around to the dams checking for liscences, if you dont have one you can buy one from them.

cool - just as long as they dont confiscate my stuff - i will leave a 100 bucks or so in my tackle box - just incase someone does come and i dont have enough in my wallet.

If the license is more i can always use the 100 bucks to bribe the guy... hahaha - dont you just love it!

At the post office you can purchase a fishing license for R75. Its an annual license.

Please note that if somebody asks you for your fishing license (freshwater) and you can't produce it, he has to be able to let you buy a license from him. Nobody is allowed just to confiscate your equipment as this will be the same as stealing your equipment from your home! I've heard of some people that dress in official looking khaki clothing, inform you they are from the old Fauna and Flaura and then if you can't provide a license, they confiscate your equipment and tell you that you can collect it from the nearest police station when you pay the "fine". When you go to the police station, the police does not have an idea of what your are refering to and your equipment ends up in a pawn shop!

I hope you right about this - cos i am not going to rush out and buy a license - will wait for them to come and ask first.

The last time I had a license was in 2001. I have never been asked for a license, not even during competitions.
I have a little bait bottle in my tackle box with R100 in it, for just in case.

The only place I took out a license was december when we went fishing in and around Mosselbay. They a bit more strickt there. Over here I'm not to worried. Haven't bought a license here in years.

Eish...guys/girls and "..." do the right thing, go and buy a license.

The lack of enforcement does not call for lawlessness on our behalf.

I buy my license every year. I will not be able to go fishing knowing that I do not have license, even if nobody comes and checks on me.  However: I leave my license behind very often, but the "khaki" impostors will have to learn to swim very well if they try to touch any of my equipment.

The problem with freshwater is that nobody knows where to buy a license. We also need a license for each province and to buy 9 licenses will work out very costly. With the rock and surf license it is easy as it is for all provinces and easily available. Freshwater licenses is notas easily available. I know if you go fish at Klipvoordam, you can buy a Northwest license from them or a day permit to fish.
